I am planning to get some BLACK heat wrap, and I actually tried to wrap my mate's exhaust before, are you actually suppose to use metal wire to tie the wrap down ?

Yeah , some wire , good twistable wire is the way.
WHere is the black stuff?
I grabbed some rope style wrap when i was rebuilding the furnace at the glass works , may be too hard to keep on effectively...
Are turbo bonnet's any good? Has anyone any experience? I do have one for our turbo's but not sure if its the right thing to do.....

I must say if you had posted this on TB , someone would have taken up your bit in the title (idiot part....) and just said it !! I have to stop myself , i dont wanna be an arse to someone i dont know.... :-O

They aren't that much more compared with white ones in the shops.

Yes it needs to be tied up at each end and yeah wetting it makes it work well.

So I have decided to make my own Benchracing thread, becoz I have too many ideas and need someone to tell me how stupid I am.

So my +Turbo bits are coming along nicely, just need LT to send me the last bit of stuff and I just have to pay him for that.
So got me wonder, LT is goina give me a TD04-16T, so I would be running it for a while, till the ECU is running smoothly.
After that, I was planning to run a Holset, but I just think from a 16T to a Holset, is a big jump, so I was thinking is there any turbo that is bigger than the 16T, had a suss around, came up with 2 "upgrade" target.

Evo 8 turbo, TD05HRA-16T-10.5T, ~$350 + a J pipe, so I don't have to swap the exhaust housing ?
VL Commy T3 Turbo ~$400 rebuilt from my local mechanic, just machine the stock 90+ Manifold to port it to fit ?

I have been wondering is the Commy T3 actually bigger than the Garrett TB03 that came in older volvo Turbo, and are both actually bigger than the 16T ?

I am pretty sure the Commode t3 is the same size Garrett. Possibly a td05-12a off of the 740t would be able to be hybrid'd with the evo turbo?

If the Commy T3 is the same size as the Garrett TB03, is it any bigger than the TD04-16T ?
I havn't actually seen a TD05-12A before, but bear in mind that the TD05HRA is different to a TD05, they take different exhaust housing and different compressor housing, bascially the CHRA is different probly ?

And Yes people feel free to post up your Benchracing ideas : )

That actually helped a lot, Thanks @nickm, I am aiming for around 280hp, so thats around 450cfm, to be in the efficency,
The Commy Turbo have to run at least 22psi which will not be happening, actually its not much bigger than the TD04-16T
The TD05HRA-16G6 just have to run around 14-15psi, still higher than I would like, but seems like I need a bigger turbo ?

Just upgrade a td04h, I'd say a 19t will get you close the comp housing will bolt up but the TD04 hot side is small. Ease of build with a 90+ manifold a TD04 is the go.

But other things are going to hold you back before that size turbo.

@nickm I actually was planning to either go for that or make a j-pipe, which is both goina be quite costly, at least $400 Turbo +$200 Housing / J-pipe, the problem with what I am thinking is, I want a Turbo that can do 200hp daily and do 300hp on weekends. The TD05-16G seems to be a good enough turbo, around 0.7 bar for 200hp, and 1 bar for 300hp.

This will bolt up to what you have. Balance it up. Probably better for daily use.

But the 19T, for 450cfm will be all the way up to 1.5bar, and to get 200hp around 300cfm, is at least 1bar. The TD05-16G seems to be more efficent at this ranges but it doesn't account of turbo lag and stuff. There is actually 20G wheel for the TD04 turbo as well, but some people say the TD04 is tooo small, so upgrading to a TD05, gives me more room to upgrade in the future ?

The 19T was always regarded as prone to boost spikes when pushed so there are now 11 blade wheels for it , it will be good if you get a cheap one , Japanese V/S70 T5s and Rs have them so look when you go back at the wreckers? Later Rs had KKK turbo though at some point.

Porting the wastegate hole helps the spikes a lot though.

Linuxman on turbobricks had run a 12 second qaurter with a 16g on a 16v converted motor with a j pipe. I think they are fine.
