I bought this set of Geminis off of @Spac a few months ago. I've been waiting for the tyres on the 740 to wear out before restoring them, lest I be tempted to buy new tyres before I really need them.

Geminis are silver from the factory, but these had been painted white. Not bad, but it doesn't go well with a silver 740. I thought about saving them for the blue 244, but decided I'd rather the larger wheels on the car that could actually benefit from them.

I spent about 5 hours getting them clean, and then I wet-sanded them with 180 grit to remove the topcoat and many of the smaller scratches. I filled some of the gutter rash with body filler, and primed the wheels with acrylic primer.

Next I sprayed an Aluminium metallic acrylic.

They are resting for the time being. If the weather is good this weekend I will put a clear coat lacquer on them.

One of the wheels still has some gutter rash that I managed to miss :-( so I think I will sand it back and fill the gutter rash then re-do it.

There is also a fifth wheel that I have not yet painted.

Nice. Did you use any specific paint for them? I'll hopefully be fixing up my Volans in a few months :-S

I went out to VG Auto Paints and got Concept Paints 1K acrylic.

Sooooo I decided the finish wasn't good enough, and that they needed additional filling. I put them next to the car though to get an idea of what the aluminium paint would look like.

Now, the set I bought from @Spac was a set of five wheels, and I have noticed one is a bit deformed. I was going to just paint 4 of the 5 wheels for the time being, but one of the ones I prepped was the deformed one, so now I have prepped the final wheel also, and will just use the bad one as a spare. I might also inquire about having it straightened out.

Today I also sorted out the centre caps. They had a bunch of scratches and whatnot, but now they're all high filled and ready to go.

So smooth!

Good work! Will look amazing on the car!

Volans are not clear coated, You can get a base colour match from the better paint suppliers. But that paint generally will need a clear coat.

I havent painted my geminis, so your a big step ahead of me, but I got Dave Barton to make some stickers for my center caps after I paint them, then I plan on filling the sticker cavity/dish with resin to keep the sticker nice and all original looking like.

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED

They will sit in the hallway for a week, then next weekend I'll 2000 wetsand and buff them, then take them down to the tyre shop for fitting.

Thanks nicko, I'll check it out when the time comes.

@jamesinc - Looking swoit and brand new!

@240Joe the issue I have with the replica stickers is that I don't think they are foil, so the lettering isn't reflective. The rain is is good though.

The scuffing on my centre cap stickers was light enough that I could buff them back to a shine.

Teaser of final results:

More photos to come once I have received some replacement centre cap o-rings. For posterity sake the o-rings are 54mm x 3mm

Where are you getting the o-rings? Because I need some too!

Do you have a center cap tool? I didn't have one back in the day and lost a cap within a week, I was pissed. I havent put the caps back on since, but I have got a tool now for when I do.

BTW they look great!

Re: Lower-adge - what are you going to do with it?

I might need to refurb my black virgo's. Will most likely need some advice from the Bruces when I do..
