I have a spare gauge pod for a 740 turbo and was thinking of installing the voltmeter and turbo gauge in my 740 GLE.
While I recognise that the turbo gauge won't work ATM, it may be useful when I put a supercharger on.

Is the wiring there already in the GLE or will I have to wire the gauges separately?
The turbo gauge is just a vacuum line. So if you run one off a fitting on the manifold or puta tee on a vacuum hose. It will read still. But they aren't that accurate and with the supercharger you want it won't show much happening as its not like they will blow out and increase boost from a blown hose like an efficient turbo does.
Thanks Vee_Que. Looks like I'll be doing some gauge transfers.
Well I've got the gauges installed but the voltmeter has two wires that connected to a + & - in the middle of the 1998 pod. Unfortunately my 1990 740 has no such connections.
Can you put the voltmeter on the charger warning light circuit safely?
Don't know. Which one is it?
This is the 1988 one where the wires connected in the middle:

This is my 1990 one:

I'm not sure if there is anywhere suitable.
Were those connectors on the right hooked up to anything when you removed the cluster?
Yes, there's three screws in the middle of the top picture. The two on the right are labelled + and -. There's no similar screws on my 1990 pod.
The Noodle (a 1989 16V) has a turbo instrument cluster in it. The PO was going to put a turbo engine in, but never did.

O&D, I'll take pictures of the wring for you when I get home
egads, yes maybe I'm not sure. I don't want to bugger up the readings from any of my current gauges just to get the voltmeter working.

bgpzfm142, OK that might help.
Well I tested the voltmeter and it works OK. Now I just need to wire it up.

Failing finding anywhere suitable on the back of the dash pod I may as well run a couple of wires directly from the battery to the gauge. That way I can properly check the voltage where it counts.
Might be the best way to be honest. Then you also avoid potentially crumbly/old wires and crap earths.
Or just off the fuses which will still be pretty strong as the feed wires for these cars aren't very crumbly.

Sorry 'bout the delay - here is The Noodle's cluster. It's a turbo Yakazi.

I have oil pressure gauge and sender and oil temp and sender for 1990 in cluster with all the wiring if your keen, PM me for details

a month later
Spent some time yesterday afternoon wiring up the voltmeter and running a vacuum line to the turbo gauge. Bonus was that I found one vacuum line that was split, so repaired it at the same time. Also put a clamp on the preheater hose from the exhaust which was falling off.

End result is that I now have full working gauges and the oxygen sensor light has gone out!
