A T5 parts catalog would be very useful in helping to resolve the shifter location issue in placing a T5 family gearbox into a 700.
For example, the picture below is of a 1352-261 T5 gearbox as fitted to the SsangYong Korando diesel.

While the torque rating of this unit is relatively low, the shifter extension housing and gearbox top cover are of interest, since the specification of this box indicates it has a bellhousing face to shifter centreline measurement of 599.7 mm - or 23.6 inches, which IIRC makes the shifter location <strike> ideal </strike> closer to ideal for 700s.
Putting together a hybrid gearbox, using this box's top cover and shifter arrangement placed on a stronger box from the T5 family, might be a hassle-free way of getting around the shifter position issue - IF the parts are compatible.
