Looks like a great starting point for a project!

Want a black parts car? I know of one and all I want is the wheels but not the whole car :(
jagardh
@black dynamite I think I'll be ok I just need a right
Front guard at the moment. I will get new stuff for suspension. Breaks will be xr5 with brackets from DVS.
Thanks though
Philia_Bear
Why settle for such small brakes?
jagardh
What else do you have in mind? I'm very open for suggestions:) @Philia_Bear
Philia_Bear
How much you want to spend
And
Do you mind living with 19" as a minimum rim size
jagardh
I would like to keep the car to look fairly stock. I know the importance of big brakes but I think I will wait until I have I all up and running. How much would a kit like that be?
Philia_Bear
374mm kit is about 2k
But it would be the last time you would ever replace the brakes on the car

Mike is a millionare. Ignore his outrageous suggestions.

Thanks @Rob
I picked it up earlier today :D
He said he's got a black bonnet and r bumper etc so I will have a look tomorrow.

nice.

There are a heap of brake upgrade options out there, working out which is suitable for you will depend on your application and your budget.
Moving from 280mm standard rotors to the 302mm rotors is about the simplest option out there, and requires only a new caliper hanger, brake line and (of course) a rotor. It really is a bolt-on and can be done without bleeding brakes!
It's better than the 280mm setup (which really is quite underbraked) but it really isnt a 'performance' upgrade.
There are adaptors available to fit Porsche 993 Turbo front calipers onto the front of the P80 platform. This one makes use of a nice, easy to source, rotor from an S60R. If you like, you can also then fit the S60R calipers and rotors to the rear.
(S60R front calipers won't fit without significant machining to the back of the knuckle - not a good idea and massively increases potential for failure)
Calipers can be very expensive used (or you need to be very lucky to stumble across a set, etc).
330mm S60R front rotors are quite expensive compared to other models too.
These will fit under a 17" wheel but won't fit under a Volan or a Titan without spacers. 15mm minimum.
Spacers on the front, changing net offset from ET43 to ET28 isnt ideal and you'll make short work of guard liners, etc, even more so with lowered ride heights.
If you're prepared to spend the money on wheels though, these are great and, with decent pads and rotors, are excellent for track days, etc.
There are also kits available to fit Wilwood Superlite and Dynalite calipers to the front of the P80 platform as well. Again, some also make use of the 330mm S60R rotor. Lots of pad options available too.
When new, you could have also optioned your 850 up with the 'factory' AP Racing front brake kit.
This kit used the off-the-shelf (and currently available) AP5200 caliper with a 325mm rotor. The rotor is NLA as a Volvo part, but you could essentially achieve the same result with a multi-piece rotor and hat. Use an off-the-shelf AP rotor (or from another manufacturer) and then have a hat made to get the rotor to achieve the correct offset in relation to the caliper, with the correct 5x108 PCD and centrebore dia. You'd still need to get some adaptors made up though.
The spec sheet on the 5200 series caliper says that you can use up to a 330mm rotor, so the S60R rotor may work here too and alleviate the need for a multi-piece rotor and hat. Maybe.
ERST offer a 6 spot, 355mm front brake conversion. This uses their own caliper and their own multi-piece rotor and hat.
K-Sport & D2 (same company, different branding) offer 4 spot, 6 spot and 8 spot solutions with rotors ranging from 286mm to 356mm in 4 and 6 spot caliper ranges, and up to 421mm (!!) if you opt for an 8 spot caliper.
Of course, last but not least, is the 320mm S40/V50T5 AWD & Ford Focus LS-LV XR5 upgrade. It isn't quite 'bolt-on' but it is very close.
It is still a sliding caliper design, rather than a 'real' multi-spot caliper though. If your car is destined to spend every km left in the remainder of it's useful life as a track car, this isn't the upgrade you're looking for - I'd likely go the Porsche or AP route.
If you're looking for something that offers a huge improvement over the 280mm and 302mm brakes and, with decent rotors and pads, will happily deal with a few track days, this might be an ideal fit.
It's very simple, inexpensive and has lots of available pad choices.
In my own case, I wasnt prepared to go for a wheel larger than 17" - Titans and Volans look great on 850 and x70 models and, while C70 models look great with really big wheels, I think 18" and 19" wheels look a bit awkward on sedans and wagons. On top of that, I just couldn't justify the cost of APs.

Looks like a cool buy.
As long as all the R bits are there you are in a good place.
Front end kits are good place to start
Wishbones, drop links, top mounts
Motor...PCV and vacuum lines..
Flush the transmission.
ABS light on?
To get a bit of piling out of the alcantara you can use a beard trimmer, electric shaver.
The Tan ones always look a bit dirty

Thanks for all The info.
All the R bits are there. I'm shopping around for shocks, springs, control arms, top mounts etc.
Abs and tracs light are on. I do have a glitch in the ignition switch and apparently that can set those lights off (that's what I hope). Otherwise can it be the abs unit or sensors maybe ?
Cheers
AshDVS
Almost definitely a faulty ABS/TRACS module.
As @nickm mentions, there are a few failure items in the front end.
* control arms
* swaybar links
* spring seats
* strut mounts
Check upper engine mount, firewall mount and lower torque mount too.
Urethane in the upper engine mount and oem rubber mounts in the rest.
RH engine mount, near the crankshaft pulley is a common failure item too.
At $1500, it's still a great buy.
nickm
usual stuff.
For the front end "meyle" bits are the best buy FCP or IPD.
The ABS is likely to be the ABS unit or and the insulation on the pump wires.
If you can solder it is relatively easy to fix. There are plenty of guides on the web.
As for the pump wires you can feed heat shrink over them
Re: struts I have Bilstein Touring in my wagon and I like them when combined with the low profile tyres and R springs they seem to work well. The koni lower the ride height and make scrubbing a problem..
