Why does it hurt? We were planning on fitting an extra one in addition to the one in the radiator, mainly because this car is going to do lots of towing in its life. The guys at Berry said its definitely not a bad idea if you're towing.

Just make sure the cooler is rated to the very high fluid flow of the AW unit, most are not

We will be getting it fitted at Berry Motor Group so I'm going to assume they fit the correct one.

What cooler would pick Mike? The pwr one is a radiator style one and used on fast drag cars too.

I'd use the oil cooler from a 740 turbo
Big bar and plate and rated for the pressure and flow

So the guys at Berry say the timing belt is "no where near due" because of the mileage, but the car is 9 years old, thoughts?

10 years is the belt interval so still worth doing soon ish.

My S60 was in a similar position, I decided to change it so i knew it was good. (120,000km and 10 years old)
Wasnt a risk i was willing to take.
you can inspect the belt to see if its cracking or splitting.

the cost of a head job with 20 new valves should scare you enough to want to do the belt now

Do the belt at 10 years don't worry about your millage, as its low, but time wise its close. DO IT ASAP.

Yeah thats what we think, it was built in around June/July and first sold in December 2005 (its apparently a 2006 model though), so we can probably squeeze a few more months out of it. It's just finances are a bit tight at the moment with 4 cars in the driveway HAHA

I find it really annoying that the 10 valve head is non-interferance but the 20 valve head is interference like seriously haha

Cars with close interference aren't a huge deal in all seriousness. People should maintain cars to the right intervals and they won't fail or be an issue, the advantage is they are more efficient running...

yeah thats true but its hard when you have no service history and its just like... fml have to do freaking everything haha. my mum used to have a non-interference camry and we didnt service it for ages cos we were poor and although the belt never snapped, it was nice to know that if it did nothing bad was really going to happen

May be some people need to work in a Volvo workshop , and see how many broken heads we fix, they just don't fail from the belt, it can be the tensioner failed, the water pump failed, don't chance it, every 10 years or millage

Id love to work in a Volvo workshop haha, they're cool cars! Would love to work on them more often and learn every detail! I had a water pump fail on a 96 Eunos 500 (Mazda engine) and it didnt kill the belt/motor, just stopped water flow (lucky I realised and didn't overheat it). The Volvo engine seems a bit weird where if one part fails it can kill the motor. Mum will be getting the belt done soon I think. I aint doing it though aha.

I've only ever done one belt, on my old Telstar (single camshaft, no vvt or anything fancy) and it was one notch out of line and ran like that for 5,000kms :)) Gonna do the older V70s soon, Ill try and be more accurate haha.

That's fine for older cars. But pretty much ABY car now has the water pump with the timing belt and they do seize and fail. Just because you don't have one doesn't mean the volvos are the odd ones out

The Mazda K V6 engine was designed and built around the same time that the Volvo 5 cylinder motors were, so its not exactly older, but I guess its a different design. Although its water pump was driven by the belt. The water pump on the Eunos didn't actually seize, the impeller broke off, but the engine could still run despite that, but obviously no water could circulate. Seizing I suppose is a different thing and can happen to any car. I do remember having all of the pulleys and tensioners on my 500 replaced but not the pump as I wasn't aware it had to be done haha. I was the innocent 18 year old who took my car to a general mechanic and not a specialist and I learnt the hard way not to do that again.
