Guys. Question
How far can I lay a B23 over before I have issues??
Excluding oil pick up and manifold angle.
Looking at putting one in a VW kombi syncro.
But they are 4" too tall.

Hmm that is a good question. You probably can't tilt it too far before encountering oil issues. I imagine the first would be that the oil pickup might not do a very good job at an angle... you'd want to modify the pickup so that it once again points downward into the sump, and you'd possibly want to do something crazy with the sump. As the oil drains rely on gravity to return oil to the sump, I don't think you could ever slant the engine too aggressively. 30 or 40 degrees maybe?

Oil pickup and sump is not an issue. I'd modify them for the angle. The oil to the cam and valves should be fine.
I can't see why I can't. Besides weight in engine mounts. Might have to fabricate a new mount system on the Low side to brace it further up. I've got a old b21 here so I'll pull it down and use it as a template for sump and mounts.
Reason I'm thinking B230 or similar is reliability and power. Good torque and bullet proof engine.
Only other thing that is an issue is the water pump. It will foul. So I'll have to run a external pump. Will either go a belt or electric one. I'll run LH injection also.
Conversion plate and flywheel is only $500.
So a cheap conversion.

how is this progressing?
