Those are the closest I have. Late 70's rather than 80's. Oem on 264's.

Ok, am at a bit of crossroads here re: restoration.
Two options:
1. Continue as planned, ie go with 'door shut' respray that has already been arranged, have it driving and patch it up cosmetically/mechanically as time and money becomes available, and as need arises. This is what I did with the VB Commodore, and have been satisfied with the results.
2. Cancel respray and do a full disassembly nut/bolt restoration, and have a go at bodywork myself (note: I have NO bodywork experience beyond touch-ups).
Option 1 preserves originality. But Option 2 makes for more thorough job. Option 1 is within my ability, Option 2 could take a very, very long time.
Thoughts?
I have decided to keep existing steel wheels and hubcaps, but I will be re spraying them myself (just an aerosol job)....

Those early "14s are dime a dozen in Sydney. 12's per 100 isn't too bad for kjet. Kjet is very particular about vacuum.
Check all the vac hoses for breaks and leaks. Check the intake bellows for cracks and leaks. Clean out the flame trap. It will be blocked. Check the intake flapper and clean out the bowl with degreaser.
Pull the intake manifold and clean it out. It will be all greasy. Check the operation of the fuel regulator by unplugging it while running. If no change in idle its suspect. Check the normal things like the cap and rotor and leads. Put in new plugs and gap to .28
Order some Seafoam from ipd and water torture it. After doing all of this I managed to get our Kjet 245 down to 9/100km at 110km\h with only 4 gears.

I got 10L/100km today going to the central coast and back, and it took 3h to get there due to an accident on the F3 (or M1, if you're not from Sydney). That and the journey is mad hills all the way. So I'm well happy with the 244's K-Jet mileage.

Pretty good!

It's how it is when K-Jet runs properly :P and you have an M46 with functional overdrive!

OD not working in my 244 but today got from North Epping to Wollongong via Cambelltown and Appin on 1/8th of a tank. Not sure of the figures, but that's a lot less than other 240s I've driven
seggle02
Well, seller of wheels got back to me I am picking them up from Canberra New Year's Day.
Could fuel consumption be down to a bad oxygen sensor? Intake bellows are cracked, vacuum lines look fine. When I get back to cowra I'll look at the other items, don't have the tools with me now...
Vee_Que
Kjet doesn't have oxygen sensor. But the bellows being cracked won't help.
seggle02
Actually the intake bellows are fine (albeit taped up...), the cold air intake section before the air filter is in very bad shape. Very brittle and disintegrating. Methinks its time to go to bunnings, see if they have some flexible tubing in the right diameter.
Now about headlining...its a bit saggy in parts. I've put pins in to tidy it up and slow down the spread of sagging. However at some point I would need to probably replace the headlining or fix it properly. I did find the 244 at local wreckers with immaculate headlining. Now.....I tried to get my headlining out. After damaging the headlining further, (but when its back in vehicle, not that noticeable...) was unable to get it out of vehicle due to bulky awkwardness. I have decided that its either a dashboard/seat out job or a rear window job. Now.....what would be the best route? Repair headlining? Good 2nd hand one? or new? Leave it? Will ring up some volvo places tomorrow to see how much a second hand one that is already out of a vehicle is, but I can see myself living with the slightly sagging original due to cost and hassle.
Anyway, today I taped up the cracks on the dash with some racing tape. I have considered a recovering but at ~$700 (incl freight) to get it recovered, then to put a dash mat on top (to reduce glare, I do this for every vehicle I have ever owned) isn't economical. I also replaced the clips on sunvisors (it was here that I noticed the headlining coming away from the backing board).
Seems like 244 is going to be a much more challenging build than the VB was!

That rubber bellow will only cause grief.
My 245 was fine for a short time but began a big slowdown and loss of power to end up only running OK for about 10km before stopping all due to the rubber being perished and a new part isn't very expensive.
Keep an eye on that.

Update - have planned out restoration as follows.
- Have decided to take vehicle off the road for a full 'significant disassembly' restoration......today started to strip down the car for its trip to the paint shop. Remove as much trim as possible so that its still driveable and roadworthy to cut costs. Have decided to leave back window out after respray so I may get the headliner out of the vehicle, so I may fix it. Headliner needs recovering and structural repair. In removing the trim I destroyed many, many clips so will need to order new ones of those. Once this is done will get dash recovered after all so that it looks as fab as the rest of the car!
-I have decided that the engine and drivetrain are in satisfactory condition given the mileage, won't be restoring these. Engine has great compression and local drivetrain specialist has confirmed that I would gain very little in repairing the gearbox/diff, regardless of minor noises they are making. Will be looking at fuel injection system, and the exhaust might need replacing soon as its very rusty. Electrics, instruments and HVAC are all fine. Various hoses, ducting and piping will be replaced under the bonnet. The scuttle/firewall area needs some general attention from perspective of appearance.
-Got the 'new' alloys today - they need refurbishment but should come up well.

Nice, sounds on track!

Well all the external trim is off save for bumpers and mudflaps (will attempt those tomorrow). I will take out the doortrims as well this week to help mr/ms panelbeater get the doorhandles out. Or I could even do that myself....hmm....
After a count I removed 113 trim clips from the vehicle. Unlike the VB Commodore, they are one use only......D'OH! (Well they were after I destroyed them all getting them out!) Sow looking at a few '00$ for new clips :(
After pricing refurbishment for alloys I would either a) do it myself (hard) or refurbish the steelies I have (Easy). I have a 1981 Aussie 240 brochure coming my way, will see what it suggests for authenticity.
paul0075
Some of the trip clips have a little plastic pin the middle that you push out from the inside of the vehicle to loosen the moulding. They can be reused later. The interior clips on the other hand aren't so nice, and you will lose a few.
seggle02
Volvo now ready for paint shop. I removed the following trim items to make it a bit easier for the panelbeater, hopefully will reduce cost:
- beltline, waistline and rocker mouldings
- mudflaps
- front and rear bumper facings
- front spoiler (needs paint, will supply)
- interior door cards
- grille
- antenna
- roof racks
- rear 3/4 glass mouldings
- mouldings that go along the top of front and rear bars
goes into shop Monday

ok looking at 1981 Volvo Brochure....did the 244 GL have a body-coloured or a black front spoiler?
it also appears I am missing key bits of chrome! (drip rail mouldings...)
jamesinc
Black. Also, chrome on the drip rail was not necessarily standard on '81 models.

Especially as from your colour yours was an Aus assembled one so the model year stuff is a bit more fuzzy.

Been following this thread with interest.
I am going to give this place a try for repairing my very tatty '74 142 dashboards -
