I'd offer but I lent my programmer to someone years ago and they never returned it (and I can't remember who I lent it to).

All good mate, yep I'll look into how to do it as I'm still not completely understanding how it works, I'd better stop clogging Nina's thread up with my off topic questions.

I chipped my 740, so if you are VERY, VERY lucky I will actually have the original turbo chip in a box somewhere. I will look around for it. It would be for a different Bosch part number though, so maximum caveat emptor applies.

The driveshaft place can't repair the power steering rack on Nina's car unless we get it re-chromed, which would be $300 and then another $300 for the seals etc.

But Ryan and I have just picked up this mad '92 240 so I'll just take the power steering from that.

the very late cars have the "best" (or at least lightest) steering racks of the lot, plus the nice hard boots that don't crack so sounds like you're winning there

Today we swapped the rear subframes between the 1992 donor car and Billie. So Billie now has a diff with a tone ring and speed signal sender, as well as the nicer brake callipers and better shocks that were on the donor car. It feels much better on the corners already.

It is interesting to note that connection between the soft lines and the hard lines on the diff are different between an 81 and and a 92. Connection is the same between the soft lines and the break proportioning valves though.

Would it be worthwhile just swapping the centres in the 245 as opposed to swapping out the entire rear end.

I've been working on a new motor for Billie. Nina is putting up with my craziness on the proviso I don't have Billie off the road for more than a couple of days.

@nickm see below for your old 530 head. It was VERY clean inside, however obligatory brittle valve hushers - did you replace those at some point?

I'm happy to do the masking and paint if you help get it clean :P that's the bit that sucks. I got lazy and hosed the block down with petrol.

So on the weekend I rebuilt Billie's front suspension. I took the struts and control arms from the parts car, went round to Mike's and pressed in new bushings (courtesy of @AshDVS), then built the struts up with a set of mint OE Volvo shocks. and new strut tops and installed everything.

The car was then sitting toed out like... 30mm. I started looking at everything trying to see if I'd somehow installed something incorrectly, and found that the bloody strut from the parts car has been in a big collision, and it's bent the arm for the tie rod joint inwards a bit. There's no other damage to the strut, so it was not at all obvious while I was assembling the thing.

Sigh so tonight that strut will come off again and all the bits will be swapped over to one of Nina's original struts, which will then be re-installed. I HATE doing suspension work. X(

What's more a bubble got into the brake lines even after bleeding (twice), so they locked up while test driving the car. FUUUUU. I'll have to do a full bleed of front and back now.

Sucky day sucked.

I just took the struts down to the local Bridgestone with my new inserts and $100 later they were done and installed. Sometimes it pays to make things easier ;)

Tearing the strut down and rebuilding it only takes 10 minutes or so*, it's the installing it only to find it has a bent steering knuckle that ruined the day.

(* If you have a pneumatic rattle gun and can wind on the spring compressors in like 30 seconds.)
