Yeah, Android on a unit like that would be awesome with all the apps at your disposal. Then you can also play with OBDII and GPS speeds and Angry Birds and everything :P
Probably not. Keen on experimenting with a USB decoder with it though, which I don't believe is compatible with Android, but is compatible with the more pure Linux distros and Windows of course. For the best in sound (One of my hobbies is making home loudspeakers, so I am not going to skimp on sound quality in my car that is for sure).

So when Kitty want dinner , she wants it NOW!!

Its outside my realm but would an app be used to access the sound controller or something? Or maybe Windows OS as you can run Google Chrome and get all the maps and angry birds from the start page anyway ....

As for home loudspeakers , i am wanting to fabricate a sub box for my large Focal sub for home or maybe the car.....
I have some nice JM Lab Focal speakers i am running with a big old Perreaux pre/pwr at 200W/ch and its very nice mosfet sound!
I have some French drivers to make a set of speakers with very solid boxes i need to look at too.
Am keen to put Focal into the car and the H/U needs to run 3-4 amps so thats what i need in the carouter...

Possibly. I don't really know as I'm yet to have a play with it. Should get this double DIN unit in the next few weeks so I'll start having a solid play and hopefully some solid answers.

Get cracking then. That MDF from Bunnings isn't going to cut itself :P Give me a hoy if you need a hand. More than happy to help. Be warned though, I'm more inclined to aural flatness, so no boomy sub boxes from me much to my brothers disgust \m/ I want to either with my 850 put a sub box either side in the rear - taking out the left and right floor and making a box that fits right in there - using the preexisting mounts so I can swap in and out if I need to use the rear of the wagon.

Thinking of ply stacked and routered out for the units....
I too like the refined sound but great deep bass i like , not rattling the plastic bits with fuzzy sound but proper defined esoteric musicality and i know thats hard in a car but i want to improve on what volvo has done in the 850/Vxx which has no midrange.
I like the idea you have or as the C70 had with optional sub in the spare wheel.....
There is a lot of space there too or alternately those bass pump speakers , i dont know what they are called but a few make them for the likes of under the seat for individual bass feeling! The later V/Sxx series had a dolby and Dynaudio setup with centre dash spkr.

Now you got me thinking , some good 8" sub/s up back and a couple of these firing right under seat but not mounted to it as it will shake it to bits?
K3FSAR
These might be better if you don't want to shake the seat to bits (why wouldn't you want that though? :P ). From my experience, 2 of the pucks is best for a single seat, whereas the bigger shaker is well suited 1 per couch for example. For a car, 2 pucks should be more than ample I'd reckon.
Ex850R
Good . I still want nice clean low bass for all sorts of music , do you think these and the sub in the back where you want them with some crossover tuning to get what is needed? Will that work?
K3FSAR
Yeah, should work. You'd probably want to run either a seperate amp for the shakers no matter the way you go.
Rig it up to have the usual high pass filter for the sub and same with the shakers (they work best at around 40hz), so you get the aural boom of the sub and a kick up the butt at the same time.
You could *possibly* piggy back the shakers off the sub or speaker outputs..... Only risk is either blowing the shakers or the amp lol
Ex850R
Good idea ! I have some JL Audio and a Punch and some old skool amps and a Pyle ? to run whatever i need.
What will give me the best bass clarity i want?
K3FSAR
In regards to the whole setup? Some general tips are the thicker the wiring, the better depending on your power load. Also make sure everything is crimped or soldered properly from battery to woofer. With the shakers, they need to be screwed down tight. If you lack a flat surface to mount them on, best to weld some mild steel onto the seat somehow or thick MDF or HDF. Sub enclosures need to be sealed good if it's a sealed setup. Closed cell foam stripping is best for that.
Ex850R
I dont reckon there is enough room under the elctric seats for one but will check , i s'pose a tissue box fits under but after my GPS got squashed after being hidden and forgotten i think if theres room then on the floor or bolted in the footwell , it would work , maybe...Years ago i bought a set of hi fi spkrs from Steve Bennet in Geelong , they one of his pairs from home and they had put PlastiDip inside on all the edge joins and on the driver mounts to get a better seal (and also a crossover upgrade and driver cone goop and some nice tweets ) They performed nearly better than the same brand but much bigger and more expensive model in listening test. There is great value in sealing enclosures , i also use the black backed silver foil , whatever its name...on the door skins etc, bugger the extra weight!
Have you made the carputer yet?? Whats it gonna be called?
K3FSAR
Should be enough room..... Might want to pull back the cover a bit and get right up in there. You'd be surprised what you can store in a seat ;) Shakers do need to be attached to the seat. Attached to the frame of the car itself isn't going to do much good (if that's what you're implying).
Yeah, speaker sealing does yield some interesting results. I mix up some PVC glue with some water (roughly 3 parts glue to 1 part water), mix and brush it on the internal walls before I put any other dampening on it. Be surprised how much is lost in a porous MDF or plywood box.
As for carputer...... Double DIN screen is on the way! Should be here in a week or two. So that should be some fun to play with. Still undecided with what I want to put into it. I've got to choose from a Raspberry Pi, a low power low grunt nVidia ION board or could go out all out and fit in a proper, decently powered Intel system. Oh the dilemma.
Also undecided what software I want to run too. A decent Linux distro would be cool (and free)..... But watching Windows 8 in full flight would be pretty awesome on a touch screen too. I think I've got a lot of playing around with stuff to do on the horizon :-B
K3FSAR
Oh. And no name yet. How about Dans Awesome Musical Nano Information Technology..... Or DAMN IT for short :P
Ex850R
damnIT is a nice logo! Have you a link to the ion stuff? I ran a windows phone for a minute......hate the w8 on mobile , w8 has matured and this is ideal for touch! I ran developer w8 on lenovo touchscreen and it was OK but too much or too different for old tech laptop compared to the latest. Chrome can go on w8 anyway so Angry Birds are there for you Dan..,.
I ha be seat in shed and have to retrieve my 850R passenger seat from a v70 I gave to my mechanic maybe tomorrow so will have a squiz for putting a thumper in them!

Zotac ION board - Pretty much the board I have. It is a few years old but would still do the job fine. One of the first small form factor, low power boards on the market (draws less than 15W) and lauded for the onboard nvidia graphics chipset helping the CPU (1080p video processing etc.). Pretty much what AMD and Intel is doing these days with their latest CPUs with gfx on chip. I used it for a few years as my main work PC and did the job well. Should be pretty ace, but powering might be an issue. Has an onboard PSU which requires 14V I do believe. Bit weird, yet to try on 12V but should hopefully work without too much of a problem. And then getting a seperate soft start to cope with car cranking etc.
Ex850R
Why not have an isolater switch so the puter doesnt need to be on when key off , yknow , a trip type when no power ? Is that possible?
Would some capacitor do the power supply to keep it at optimum input?
