Hi all,
I know I have been inconsistent about what's happening with the next Nationals, the reality is there won't be a 2023 Nationals.
It is for personal reasons. Much has changed in my life, I've gone through the pandemic, the time requirements of my job have steadily increased, and after kicking the can down the road for a couple years saying I'll deal with the burnout later, it finally caught up to me. I decided to spend the first part of 2023 taking some holidays and basically just trying to find some balance in my life again. Even then, it was a rocky time, and to top it all off, over the past few months I've been sick a bunch.
So in March I was optimistic of planning the event by Easter, but come Easter I had made zero progress.
Organising nats is a huge time and energy committment and causes me no end of anxiety trying to make sure it goes well, and frankly I needed the break.
I want to call out Dan (@Raebird) and Jared Wilson (who has a username on Oz Volvo but I forget what it is) who tried really hard to get 2023 Nats to happen and who are generally invaluable support planning and during Nats.
So, I know you will be disappointed that there's no Nats this year, but I can offer a couple of small carrots to hopefully tide you over:
Oz Volvo turns 10 in July, and I have organised a cruise from Sydney out to Bathurst and back on Saturday, July 15. Details are in the event thread. The fine folk of Volvo C30 Owners Australia will be along for the cruise too and the event is shaping up for a pretty decent turnout!Toward the end of 2023 (October/November) I will also put together another event in/around Sydney. I'd like to restart the pie cruises that I had going for a while before Covid, if there's interest.August 2024 (ages away I know). To celebrate the 50th birthday of Volvo's most iconic (fight me) car, the 240, I am organising a 240 Nats. This will likely also be when the 2024 Oz Volvo Nats is held, and may also include some track events :)
