  • Motor and tranny for a 1982 wagon

Hi, Im posting this to see you might have, because of the wagon Im considering to buy. But has serious oil leaks because of long term blockage of flametrap.

So let me know what you have, and how many ks, and what you will charge for for it.

Thanks in advance.

Just a thought but what if the replacement engine you buy starts leaking oil not long after it's put into service?

    There's no warranty.

I'd seriously consider getting the oil leaks on the original engine rectified, then you know you won't be having to do it again, as well as not having to pay someone wasted money changing an engine (labour intensive) for no real benefit

Yeah if you are willing to pull the motor out either way, I would just replace all the seals and gaskets and then put it back in. I'd do at least a compression test first though, in case the bores are very worn. At that point it would probably be cheaper to find a used redblock that is less worn, although that has its own challenges as you probably won't know what condition the replacement block is in unless you open it up or the seller did a comp test.

Clean it, fix it, send it

The engine has done 450k. What is getting meto even consider this, is how good the body is. As someone has said, the body and paint is way more expensive to fix.

Yes, to have it painted is easily $9K ....

Mark Iceton has reco head on shelf I know of , the rest can be added to it reconditioned by people he has available if you want to buy it ready to go in. Exchange the old motor too I expect. He may have good motors sat on shelf as well , they warranty used stuff if proven too.

450,000 km is nothing, the B23E engine is stout as anything

Compression test will verify (cooling system pressure test too),

Fix oil leaks, change belts, run it

The motor in my old 240 had 480ks.

to this day it was still the best redblock I've ever had, I swapped that motor into 3 diffrent cars and beat the shit out of it daily and it never missed a beat.

I bet its still out there chugging along.

You didn't mention whether it starts.

I would be checking to see where the oil leaks are from, for starters. It may well be an easy fix.

My 240 had a blocked flame trap.Popped the top rocker cover rubber gasket.Took 3-4 hours to fix on my first time doing that job.

Just saying.Listen to the other guys, they know.Good luck.

Magnus Roos is selling a low mileage late motor from his 940 he is LS swapping, comes with gearbox , I'll post

If you don't want the auto I'll take it.

I could arrange shipping via whomever Berry Motor Group use.

DM me , I know Magnus and Berry's.

Yes, it starts and runs. But the guy has reneged on the deal. Tried to go pick it up, and he wont answer the phone. we agreed top the sale two weeks ago. Its his car, to sell how he wants, but at least have the manners to explain.

Wow, Wt!, Yeah, he may have a legit reason. A short explanation would be appropriate.

What made this incident even harder to take, was i missed out on saving a 1970 140 wagon. Ive never seen one in the flesh, but have seen many sedans It got crushed a week before i found out about it. It was worth saving, but was like salt in an open wound, Got to learn to let go.

Keep in contact with Mark Iceton, he is called regularly by people selling old cars, even giving them away, he usually fixes them at great cost and sells making a loss.. ..

He passes on others, let him know and remind him regularly as he is always busy.
