I would say forget the O/S stuff , call Mark ( @Pom ) and get a set from a wreck tha way you get matched key fob so no problems setting one up , plug n play...

The bypass unit is 3545333, bottom right of the following photo.

It looks like a relay but is basically just a jumper that permanently connects the starter motor circuit, whereas on models with alarm the starter motor circuit is controlled by the alarm relay & interrupted when the alarm is tripped, preventing the car from being hot wired after a break in.

Yes Will. That was what was in my car. Original or replaced because the immobilizer died I'm not sure

Transponder chipped key & non-chipped key side by side, chipped key is on the left. Much bigger than the non-chipped key. Both genuine Volvo of course.

On cars equipped with the transponder immobiliser system, the immobiliser control module around the steering column reads the key's transponder code via the antenna ring around the ignition lock & sends an all-clear signal to the engine ECU. If the key used to start the engine doesn't have the correct transponder code ECU will shut the engine off after 2 seconds.

So what are my steps here? Get a key blank, get the code from Mr Minute, get the key cut, then get Will here to program my car to accept the code?

@jamesinc Depends if you want aftermarket or genuine Volvo key. Aftermarket you can get Mr. Minute to read the code from your existing key & clone it to the new key, no need for my diagnostic tool. If you bring a genuine Volvo key to Mr. Minute they refuse to clone it, I'm not sure if it's a technical or legal issue, in which case yes you will need my diagnostic tool.

Also if you want to get a key cut, it's best to do it by providing the locksmith your lock cylinder number. Don't let them copy it from your old key cause you're also copying years of wear & tear. I don't think Mr. Minute has the equipment to cut a key using lock cylinder number but I could be wrong.

Only if you end up changing keys as well. But I imagine if you get a good lock barrel & take it to a locksmith he should be able to modify it to match your existing keys.

Cheers Nick , I needed help , my brain is in Park not Drive lately , usually Reverse.
Anyone done this and know the cost?
Recoding could be cheaper?

I did read something about a code for the ECU/transponder Will ?

May as well do that Nick and get a couple of transponder keys too.
Plus swap the dodgy barrel into the T from the R and do the same or buy another I guess , its the little things that make it 'not cheap' with some cars you buy..

$120? For less than that price (£58, so about AU$108) you can order a genuine Volvo key, factory cut from FRF Volvo in UK. I'm pretty sure you'll end up with an aftermarket one if you go to a locksmith. Even when shipping is included it still won't be much more than $120.
@iceton1975 says he can look up the immobiliser PIN code for free, and with that either me or this other guy in Sydney who just bought the scan tool can program it for you.
