Wow Thankyou so much for going to all that trouble of that explanation.Well I think I paid $30 for the unit just as a spare then got a substitute part when it didn't work!( original still in car working ok and has the the code lol lol !!)Have a bit of a life at the moment and lots of projects so I think it's just going to live its life in the Volvo spares corner?

I've just been thinking of this thread on the way home from work today and I'm going to follow in your footsteps to try crack the code on my SC-801.

A couple of years ago during covid I rang Volvo Cars Melbourne who after a bit of back and forth, were able to get me the radio code for my 1989 Volvo 240, so the dealer may be worth a shot if all else fails?

I tried dealers here in Aus, UK, Europe as I purchased this radio from Sweden.
No luck.

There is a place in the UK that can extract the code from the chip on the PCB apparently.

I guess it also isn't the full array of numbers between 1111 and 6666 as you can't input 7,8,9 or 0.

Correct - which means it's one of 1,296 of the possible combinations between 1111 and 6666 inclusive.
It's one of these. (Yeah, this is my code sheet - enter 3 codes, cross 'em off, wait 2 hours, enter 3 more, rinse / repeat)

If you know the original registration number of the car the stereo came from that's the only way the dealer's can give you the code, they know nothing about the stereo only the car it came from, which they'll have the code for, well that's the way it worked in the UK anyway

242GT I use a CB radio power supply.
If you find dead bulbs in the radio's faceplace, the replacements are Honda Neo-Wedge Clock Light Bulbs, type T3 - 35505-S84-N01.

There was a guy in the states called JR who would out of love for the volvo community did 3 radio codes for me by just using the serial numbers. He passed away a few years later, no wonder I didnt get an answer on the last one. I don't think there is anyone now out there who was as generous with his time as this guy was. Its a new world.
