Definitely a case of “I don’t have the money, but I have to buy it anyway”…. Or another reason why I am perpetually broke…
It’s a manual Magna Sports, with a Ralliart bodykit on it.
Was advertised at a “local” wrecker for $1500 with a dead engine. We did the usual Messenger haggling and I went to get it this morning.
And I am glad I did.
It’s actually quite a nice car, with only some clear peeling off one door, a missing flare and the front bumper hanging loose on one side.
The interior is neat, it has proper lowered springs, the wheels are genuine OZ Racing with Michelins, the body kit is genuine. It also has an aftermarket exhaust with a Varex muffler.
The real surprise/bonus is that it already has the 3.8 engine conversion - and it’s been done the “good” way too - Magna electronics on the later engine is more reliable and easier to retune.
Looking inside the cam cover, everything is clean, so I am assuming timing belt or big end.
Plans are… fudge knows! There had been a general idea of making a Magna circuit racing car, so this seems like the ideal starting point.
But it’s also quite tidy, so maybe the blue one becomes the race car, something something???
Edit: poked around the engine a bit this afternoon.
Cam belt is tight and intact, and the cams are timed correctly to each other, so I have to assume that isn’t the problem.
The motor doesn’t want to turn over, so I am assuming a conrod jammed between the crank and the inside of the block.
Not that it would be easy to see, but there’s no obvious breakage of the block, so it might be rebuildable… hopefully!
