RSK1967 Hi. I live in the tropics and need the aircon working well. I am investigating rather than fixing original system A/C issues (fan motor etc), to install an under-dash system in my car.
Has anyone done this or can offer me some advice?
Thanks.
Going underdash is going to be more hassle than it's worth, it's like re-inventing the wheel.
You might be better off dumping the York compressor in favour of a Sanden swishplate type compressor, and fitting a larger condenser for starters.
If you ever come across a 1990+ car being scrapped, consider geting the complete HVAC box from it, which will have the larger parallel flow evaporator. These evaporators are LHD and RHD specific due to the long pipes affixed to them, and RHD ones are much harder to find at a reasonable price.
But if you're dead-set about reinventing the wheel, Dave Barton's pages show his efforts. He has an excellent explanation too about the differences between the 240's factory systems.
