  • new 940 heater core wanted

Before I flick another order off to vehicleheaters.co.uk for another 20528 type heater core unit, does anyone reading this here in OZ have a brand new spare which they're not planning to use any time soon, and wish to part with?

Both my 940 and 960 need new ones.

Good evening

RHD and LHD are different right?

Dash has to be removed too?

Good evening -

Yes, RHD and LHD are different, and there's variations in LHD types.

With a 940, it's an easier job if one removes the dash.

With a 960, it can be done without removing the dash (at least in Robert DIY's vids for LHD cars) but the advice I got here says it's an easier job after removing the dash.

In both cases, there's a line of 7mm self tappers along the top, sides, and base of the blend door box in front of the heater core, and they're inglorious bastards to get to, even when the dash isn't in the way.

Pic below shows the blend door box on the RH side of pic, with oval air outlet. Note line of screws near where the coloured vacuum control lines run along to the top of the blend door box.

This pic is from my last under-dash adventure in the 940T back in early 2019 to replace a failed 2-port vacuum motor, but the heater core didn't have the common decency to fail before I did that job.

I've done 940 and 960 in both LHD and RHD and never had to remove the dash once

I'd just go with the UK ones

If you bypass the core and bring the car my way I'll help you do them

I have no doubt at all that Legends can do heater core swaps without removing the dash.

But alas, for mere arthritic ham-fisted non-legend-backyarders like me.... well, that's another story. I found getting to those 7mm self tappers around the blend door box was difficult enough, even with the dash out of the way.

Removing the 940's dash isn't that big of a deal - it's 3 bolts and 4 clips at the firewall.

The 960's dash will be brand new territory, since I've never done one before One of the vacuum motors has failed, so I'll replace that while I'm in there. I'll also put a 4-port heater tap on there too - the one on the 940 just saved my bacon when the heater core failed 1500 km from home.

Any suggestions for sourcing 2 new hoses from the heater core to the B6304? FCP don't stock RHD versions, and the local dealer is hopeless. Does SCA, etc, stock something suitable?

      Good morning

let me see if I can source genuine hoses

what year model 960 have you?

      She's a 1996. p/n 1397931-5 x1 and p/n 9155498-0 x1.

The factory LHD Z shaped hoses work great as they are very forgiving with the install

Mods - can you please close the Wanted post and put Daniel's post above into a new thread - "940 & 960 dash removal & heater core replacement"?

If anyone has a write up on removing 940 dashes that would be great

I'll do one with photos when I do the 940, although the Green Book covers it. But the 960 is first.

Order placed with Foursome Vehicle Heaters at http://vehicleheaters.co.uk/ for a new one.

Mister @Philia_Bear - which Z-shaped LHD one? (they're both a bit zedded, or should I say, zeed....)

      This one.....

      .... or this one?

Any luck @ramrod with finding RHD hoses without needing a mortgage?

      Good morning

      $167 for those two hoses

Coming from Sweden so 2-3 weeks

Thanks for the trouble of checking this out, but I can't wait 3 weeks - on the barge again 1 month from today.

        I'll try alternatives from SCA.

I can close this thread. Just make a new thread if and when you do the guide.

I've done it once, in 2011, unfortunately I don't have a walkthrough for it, but I did manage to do it without removing the dash top. If I recall, I was myself following a guide I found on the Intergoogle.
