Hi All,

This is the car that was advertised on this site. It was already sold but the purchaser reached out and decided to sell the car to me. The car arrived in Adelaide today. Well......I think the original purchaser dodged a bullet. But alas, it's a V70R Phase 3. A rare car. It's probably rougher than I expected given the service history. Headliner will need to come out, door trims repaired, steering wheel recovered, new carpets and several broken trim / switchgear pieces. Not to mention body and suspension work. I was aware of most of this, and had a budget of about $20K. I think it's going to go over. Saturday afternoon I'll be pulling the ECU out to flash it. I do my own flashing. I'll just do a quick 'stage 1' flash and remove the torque limiter. Might even try sharpen up the throttle response. Hopefully it'll go nearly as good as my C70 coupe. I'll get some pics tomorrow and post them up. Then keep updating as things progress. It'll be a lengthy build as I have several cars on the go already. Actually doing a 2001 S40 T4 PCV refesh at the moment and trying to make it pull vacuum better than it currently is. I don't think these systems work well when the engine starts to get tired. That might need to be another thread.

Fun times ahead.

Good old dining table workshop. Ecu out, opened and pin-outs connected. Doing a backup of all the original files first. Then read just the maps. Write new map to ecu, and hopefully some new found power and drivability.

Is that genuine ktag or "replica"? I bought knockoff kess and ktag but Im not game to brick any of my ECUs

I look forward to seeing the progress of your thread! I had my eye on this when it came up for sale - glad to see it’s going to be restored. Stunning colour!!

I’m looking at getting my ecu tuned too - is this a service you offer?

    Thanks & good luck ?

I think it is a genuine. I paid quite the sum for it. Came from a repossession auction. Don't know much about the clones sorry.

It will be slow progress, but as they say, slow and steady wins the race. I have a few other non Volvo, extensive rebuilds going on as well. I'm fortunate that the wife really digs cars as well.

I don't do tuning as a service as such, but have done a lot of my own, and friends cars etc. If you want something done, feel free to pm me. If it's something I'm familiar with, should be ok. I'm new here, and if that's not allowed, please mods let me know.

So ECU back in this morning. Wow...didn't that wake it up. Bigger intercooler and some derestriction of the exhaust next I think.

Big intercooler hoses too, bigger than the aftermarket ones, it works!

I used a cheap eboi coooler as well, brill6! (GP Racing on eboi)

I seen those on Ebay a while ago. I grabbed one for the C70.

Going to try and fab my own RIP kit. I don't think it'll be that hard. I have a decent size pipe bender which will do up to 3".

I got the tube and silicon kit from GP Racing , cheap as.

        Thanks, I'll check that out.

Just hooked it up to VIDA and the only code is: check engine light missing. Anybody know what this is? Can't seem to find a reference for it on the internet.

they pulled out the CEL globe in the dash ?

Yeh, that's what I'm thinking. Which begs the question...why? No codes other than that.

Managed to get a couple of things done today. Replaced the upper torque mount. Put a poly one in. The old one was in two pieces. The centre fell out of it.

The bonnet was difficult to open. Three people. One on each side where the latches are, pushing down and me pulling the handle and holding it so they could lift the bonnet. Passenger side catch needed adjusting, as did the drivers. also found the cables on the drivers latch in the wrong corresponding holes. Pulled it out, changed them around, and hey presto, a little tug on the handle, and the bonnet pops up like its supposed to.

Ha! My I'll fated V70R in same colour as yours had same issue as did one or two of my V70 turbo cars in variously 2.4T or T5. (2.4T with T5 transmission ecu and boost screw MBC with the intercooler and big hoses was the most crazy one out of them all around town.)

So....turns out 'engine light missing' on VIDA was a blown globe. All this to replace a tiny globe. ?

Good work on making the effort to save it.

I've had a similar journey on our project car now. I'm into in a little beyond the budget you noted but a chunk of the things I'm doing are completely necessary and are just, since I'm building something for myself that I intend to keep, I may as well do...

In our case, it's gone from a biege interior to full charcoal interior, dash swap, rooflining retrimmed in charcoal, etc. I bought a parts car for all the small parts I thought I might need and the larger parts ended up coming from about 5 different cars now. If you need some sort of small grey trim oddity, drop me a PM. I'll go through what I've got for you.

The parts car has been well picked over now and it isnt far off being taken away but its possible there'll be some weird bit that you might need.

Looking forward to your progress regardless.

          Hi Ash,

Thanks for that. Really appreciate it. I'm certain there are a few trim pieces I need. I'll have a look tomorrow and let you know. Really trying to like this car at the moment. Can't really say what I think of the previous work done to the car. Hmmmm.

Plan to tackle the trim first. Get it up to a respectable level. Next will be suspension. Get rid of the Nivomat. They are leaking and sagging. Much lower in the back and it'll look like a Pro Streeter. New bushes, joints etc. Not sure if there's bigger brakes available, something you'd know I'm sure.

          Cheers

          Scott

Is your bonnet able to be opened first time after adjusting the catches?

And does it pop up or just stay almost at its fully latched position?

One cause for the issue is the rubber bumpers near the leading edge of the bonnet getting worn down, need thicker ones on there to remedy it, which I also need to do.
