  • Where do people store their classic Volvo if there's no room in the garage ?

My garage only has room for one car – currently my cherished MY2020 S60 T5 AWD. I'm keen on buying a classic Volvo in the future but, there's no room in the garage.

So, where do people store their classic Volvos ? Do they hire a storage unit somewhere or use a dedicated car storage facility ?

What are the options ?

Thanks.

Before we moved, I used a Kennards-like self storage facility. A number of classic cars were stored there. Not exactly cheap, but had the advantage of on-site security.

There may be a few people in CBA who'd be interested in a getting a group storage facility together, I believe @paul0075 would be at least one person.

I store mine under a nice cover. Just keep it nicely waxed!

I leave the modern car outside because it's modern.

Yes, that is an option for me too. But, there has been quite a lot of malicious damage to and theft of cars parked in or close to the street. So, I always park it in the garage when not driving.

Yeah. Modern paint technology hangs out in the weather much better than the old stuff.

I have my 1974 164E in the front yard under a car cover. There's also a shade sail over this too.

My 1990 740GLE is in the garage as it has been recently resprayed. The other two cars are on the street.

    What sort of cover James?

I've heard some of the weather proof car covers can affect the paint if left on too long in warmer weather.

Mine lives outside and I probably should cover it.

Covers scratch paint. I cover some of my parts cars. I’d never use one on a non parts car (outside that is) but hey, not everyone has the same experiences so if a cover works, cool

Covers don't scratch paint, stuff gets between the cover and the car and that is what scratches the paint. It's really difficult to clean covers well, it's the most annoying thing about them.

Yes they are not a substitute for a garage, you will get moisture trapping under them, some dirt eventually gets in, etc, but they are infinitely better than an uncovered car.

I just use Rain-X covers. The ones Supergheap sell are pretty bad. The Rain-X ones are nicer material and don't have poorly thought-out plastic clips etc on them.

While I'm waiting two years (bloody neighbours objecting) for a council permit to build another garage this is how I try to look after the 240. So far there has not been a problem as long as the wind is not blowing too hard when putting the cover on.

make sure that the car is polished, clean, dry and all dust is off before putting a cover on.place a soft double bed sheet over the car with a honeycomb foam sheet over the roof (to allow breathing gap and provide hail resistance) then put the cover on and tie it down tightly to stop any rubbing in windy weather.

I recon that it works nearly as good as a car covered in a garage but is a pain in the neck to do every time I use the car.

    The car without the cover.

The car with the cover on.
