hereamack I've seen Volvo 144s and 145s advertised on eBay in the USA with fuel injection, but I'm not sure whether these models were officially released for sale new in Australia with fuel injection.
Does anybody know whether Volvo 144s and 145s were officially released for sale new in Australia with fuel injection?
Thanks a lot for any assistance you can provide.
The 1800E was the first 4 cyl Volvo with FI, it was D-Jet on the B20E engine in 1970, IIRC. The B20E went into the following year's 140 year models.
From the time the US introduced ULP, US-spec cars got the B20F engine (FI, reduced compression) only, in 140s and 1800E series. B20B engines were still available in Canada at that time. Rest of the world - including OZ - got B20A (single carb) B20B (twin carb, high comp) or B20E (FI, high comp) depending on market and trim level.
For YM 1974, B20E and B20F became K-jet engines, while the 164's B30E and F six-potters stuck with D-Jet.
The 1973 B20E was rated at 91 kW DIN @ 6000 RPM, not bad for a 1970s pushrod 2 litre. OTOH, the B20A struggled with 60 kW @ 4700 RPM; the smaller valves and smaller cam smothered it.
Many of the 140s you see from the US are injected, because you really didn't have any other engine option when the smog laws happened there. Most Grande Luxe level 140s sold by dealers in OZ were injected; however, my 74 145 isn't a Grand Luxe but has K-Jet and metallic paint.
