Hello all, thought I'd introduce myself now that I actually own a Volvo.
My name is Sunny, Sydney based and have owned a long, pretty eclectic list of interesting cars. Bunch of old BMWs, classic Mercs, some Pugs and many, many RenaultSports over the years and can disassemble a Clio 172/182 with my eyes closed (and maybe even bodge it back together with the bolts we haven't lost :P) but I've had my time with them so decided to try tick off more cars on my to-do list. Daily drive a UK import, manual B7 Passat diesel wagon which swallows up my mountain bikes with ease, uses stuff all fuel for the Thredbo and Stromlo bike park runs and is probably the best daily driver I could have bought.
Recently finished rebuilding a 9000 CSE that had Aero bits stuck on by the previous owner (turbo, intercooler, interior and other bits). No idea if it's tuned or not but goes like a riot on boost and heaps fun to drive.
Anyway, the main topic:
Having bored my friends to death for the last 12 years about one day buying a 240 and a few previous near misses with what turned out to be fairly disappointing examples, I finally pulled my finger out and actually went and bought one, @wdj's project car that recently went up for sale down in regional Victoria. He's done heaps of work to the car to get it to where it is and I thought yep, this is the one to go for.
So despite a baby boy arriving in about 4 weeks, my wife and I decided this opportunity couldn't be passed up so promptly got on the phone and arranged for me to come down to inspect (but let's be real - buy) the car.
Sweet talked my best car mate into coming along for the fun, had a blast of a weekend getting it and Bill and his partner were excellent hosts. Well worth the effort and the car was even better than advertised.
Anyway got it home, took it up and down my quiet street for a shakedown, pretty sweet car. Engine purrs nicely and the auto box is good enough. However, once up to temp when shifting into drive from neutral or park the car stalls without any throttle input, so spent the night arming myself with knowledge and will have to spend some time tuning up the (dreaded) k-jet system and try to figure out what's going on. Probably a vacuum leak or a poorly adjusted idle screw but won't really know until I get under the bonnet next weekend.
Plans for the car? Windscreen, alignment, achieving a stable idle, rego and just drive the doors off it hopefully one day with a young car guy in the kid seat. I like these things for how they are, don't need more power got the Saab for that! Am looking forward to getting stuck in, hopefully meeting many of you over the course of ownership and channeling the wealth of knowledge on this site into making this a great car for years to come.
Here are a couple photos of the Swedish chariots.
