Transmission issues. It is damaging it even if it feels fine to you when you have to drive it in a relatively odd way. The clutches will be slipping before engaging which is why you need to increase power to keep the oil pressure high in the box to push the clutches to engage gears. I'm just giving a warning as you're now pretty much in last legs if it won't drive normal at all.

I only drive it like that when it plays up, most of the time its fine, I personally don't think the tranny is as bad as you think it is... I think its all this city driving thats doing it. Its probably just a combination factor of it getting too hot (needs a tranny cooler) and no tranny fluid changes in its life, oh and probably old software. It still drives in D mode fine most of the time, I only drive it in manual when it gives me trouble, so it won't clunk (cos I figure that is bad).
I just did a round trip on the highway to Sunbury and back and left it in drive the whole time and it didn't give me any hassles. It takes a pretty long time for it to start playing up, Id say >30 minutes of city driving, >2 hours of highway driving.

Getting back to the car in question now haha, Ive decided to give it a name, I love how everyone on here has named their car something strange, like "DVS SuperRattyT5 ™ - 1998 V70T5", "Sam's Slightly Bodgy 855R" and "Les' UltraRattyR ™ - 1998 V70R" haha, so to continue the theme Im going to name mine "Jay's KindaRatty™ 97 V70" because it is, kinda ratty, but underneath the layers of its use as a family car (and the slightly bodgy paintwork on the bonnet) its actually quite good. Only problem is I can't change the title on here haha.

The mods may be able to change it for you?

Im thinking/hoping so haha

You don't need to make it similar to other peoples thread names.... just saying.

Year Model "Name"
is my favourite format. I can change the title to whatever you want though. I always thought you could do it yourself though by editing your original post!
egads (she/her)
Nah, you lose the ability to edit after a week of post life.
jaykenneally
Lets not worry about it then....

Mods still can and it sounds like it may not be intentional so perhaps James and the team will have a squid.

So, big shout out to @Tzantushka for solving the power window issues on the XC with the little trick to reset it, now Ill move onto this cars power window issues.
First of all they're as slow as a wet week, I think my regulators are well worn so Ill probably swap them from the 850.
But mostly its my switch playing up like in the XC. Auto function on the drivers side only works one way. I believe it will go down automatically but not up. Also the rear left passenger door will not go up from the drivers door but will go up from the relevant switch.
I possibly think that I am up for a new switch as it generally feels a bit worn out to use and it feels like its not making contact but I thought, hey, it might be worth seen if I can reset these ones as well and see what happens. So can you reset them the same way as on my XC or is it a different procedure or can it not be done aka. new switch time. Thanks!

New switch...Not cheap , i got one from FCP and swapped it in as it was LHD , its playing up years later....
I grab any S/H one i can to have em on hand...
The biggest problem with these beasts is a microswitch in the door lock that tells the system to turn lights on and off so if having issues with interior lights , that is the culprit not the overhead light console thingy between the sun visors...
jaykenneally
yeah if i see one at the wreckers ill grab it but 168% of the time someone has beaten me to it. Must be a common fault haha. Again Im willing to hack two broken ones with a soldering iron and see what happens. And no issues with the interior lights as of yet.

Berry motor group will have a working one to sell you for a reasonable price that works. The 850 one different?

yeah Ill get one from them if i don't stumble across a cheapie at pick a part. And yeah the 850's is different, its in the centre console rather than the door, unless the internals are the same? I don't think they are cos the 850's integrates the mirror switch and doesn't have a door lock where as the V70 is... The exact opposite actually, doesn't integrate the mirror but has door lock controls haha.

Window master switches on the C70/S70/V70 are complete rubbish. New ones are expensive and used ones are unlikely to have much life left, buttons are all gummy etc.
I have a gummy and ugly one in the car at the moment (the button for LR window doesnt work) and a really good used one that I'll fit when I replace the drivers door.
You might get lucky if someone is parting out a car etc, otherwise scour your wreckers. If you expect to have the car for a long time it might be worth buying a new one (I dont expect to have the one we have here for an extended period).

Ash , i bought a new one from FCP or IPD i cant remember , i put the internals in the RHD enclosure using the LHD one from USA , it has been through three cars now and either the other door switches affect it or it has started to fail , it is not worth buying a new one at what they cost....
i believe that the micro switches in the door locks ( Mark at Voldat has looked at them...) have an effect on the problem as well which means the door locks as a whole all need to be replaced...
x70 , who would have em....
jaykenneally
Yes I have heard that the window switches on this generation are not anything to run home about haha, but at least mine do work except for the auto mode. But the buttons are completely gummy as you say with it even coming off back down to the white plastic layer. Oh well this is the car that I don't care about so as long as it runs I don't care haha. Not going to spend big money on it, not until the XC is fixed anyway, cos that ones my baby and takes priority.
Luckily for me so far the door locks seem to be working faultlessly~!
Ex850R
Maybe taking the goop off to plastic and putting plastidip on them could make em nicer but will lose the backlights they have then. Same for a lot of controls in the car , that rubberised surface stuff is all knackered , ahh well.
I think you can buy some new ones , IPD maybe but is it worth it?
