Airbag recall

Has anybody else received a recall notice from Volvo regarding the driver side air bag? 2001-2007 models.

I've got like 7 for them to do ?

I received the recall letter for my S60R and booked it in for the replacement. A week out from the appointment I called to see they had the the 'R' version of the 3 spoke wheel and air bag with the blue stitching and R embossed symbol. Lucky I called as Volvo Australia had just sent out the normal S60 version so now they are trying to source an R specific version. Anyway, just check they have the right parts before going in if you have something or a colour combo a bit out of the ordinary.

URGENT SAFETY RECALL R10125 (1 st Letter) November 2021

We would like to inform you that Volvo Car Corporation has decided to carry out a safety recall on certain model year Volvo-S60, S80 vehicles (model year 2004-2009).

Volvo Cars quality investigations have identified that due to a manufacturing issue, the driver's airbag inflator may rupture in the event of airbag deployment in the event of a crash.

In the event that a defective airbag inflator ruptures, metal fragments may propel out through the airbag cushion towards the vehicle occupants causing serious injury or death.

The corrective action is to replace the driver's airbag. This action will be done free of charge by a Volvo dealer.

As your car is within the determined range of chassis numbers for this potential defect, we kindly ask you to contact your Authorised Volvo dealer as soon as possible. They will arrange an appointment to have the necessary replacement carried out, free of charge. (A full list of dealers is on the reverse side of this page).

Should you no longer be the owner of the vehicle, it would greatly assist us, if you would complete the "Customer Reply Section" below and return this letter to us in the reply paid envelope supplied. This will assist us to trace the present location and owner of the vehicle. They don't have and will not have the R specific airbag. If you're on Facebook, look at Volv of Adelaide as swapping the airbag covers will be your only option.

Yeah thanks, just read the Swedespeed run down of the same thing and it goes into detail how to swap the leather cover. Trouble is Volvo won't give the old "R" one back so I will have to source a standard S60 airbag, fit that to the car then take the car in for the recall, get the new one fitted then swap the old R cover back on to the new bag. Need to think through this before launching into it as yet to find out if the dealer will go to the same trouble.

They won't. They don't care. Once it's gone then it's gone forever.

So a mother in law can be sent back? Thats news to me.
