New heater core installed today.
That was about 30 mins of work.
Reconnecting the heater hoses to the block where someone had bypassed the heater core? Well that was about an hour.
Why some decided to do that rather than replace the heater core is beyond me...
Ex850R
Lots of time burping the system while running it now.
They get water in lhs foot well , panic and mechanic quotes too much money so do easy fix...
CamZH
Today is day 2 of the PCV overhaul.
So many hoses perished to the point of being rubbish.
CamZH
Striped down, degreased and water blasted
Slightly blocked...
Fancy spacer for the intake manifold...
Reassembled with some blue bits !
And a new radio. The old one was just painful
CamZH
Failed pink slip today due to a split CV boot :(
crosspug
Silly question but where did you get the map pocket thingo for the radio? or was it already there?
Oh and lots of good work!
CamZH
It was already there Jono. Installed by someone else when the original radio was replaced.
But it's just a universal pocket.can get them from anywhere you can buy a car radio.

Oh ok, for some reason I thought they needed a more elaborate facia kit. Maybe I'm thinking v70 vs 850. Whoops....
CamZH
to my knowledge the early V70's are the same as the 850's, in that nothing special is needed.
Not sure about the later V70's (Pre P2)
When you goto the P2 chassis they do need a replacement fascia kit.
AshDVS
They're definitely the same, a standard single DIN cubby/bin/pocket thing will be fine.

Thats not too bad. Replace boot and go back and you're good?
CamZH
Thats the plan. James has offered to return a CV boot that I gave him after I sold my 850.
So free parts ! (well i paid for them at some stage, but they are on the shelf)
I dont have too much of an issue with being pulled up for it, main reason is that it was spinning some grease out onto the caliper which could work its way onto the disc/pads
It was really nice for the guy to let me have a good look while she was on the hoist, haven't been underneath her since i bought her

CV Boot got replaced this weekend,
Another one of those tasks that ended up being a lot more difficult than I'd hoped.
The difficultly was in separating the joint rather than anything else.
jamesinc
Did you use the hammer and drift method?
CamZH
Yep, spread the clip and then beat it while holding the shaft in a vice.
I'm sure the CV shaft that came out of my old 850 just fell apart when i spread the clip in the CV joint.
clinton
I had trouble separating the joint too. I had my wife hold onto the CV joint while I held the circlip open and tapped the joint with a hammer/punch. Very messy job and angry wife...
What is the hammer and drift method?
jamesinc
Punch and drift are basically the same thing.
CamZH
sure is messy.
so much grease !
and the hole in the boot was so small !
the bearing cage had cut into it and the hold was about 3-4 mm long yet there was grease freaking everywhere !
clinton
Ah, OK. I have my other side coming up and was hoping there was an easier way (as my wife will not help me again :-) ) It was one of those jobs where I felt a third set of hands (or at least a vice) would have come in handy...

Just buy new axles,
The only reason I didnt replace the axle as a whole was that I had the boots (kind of) and I'm short on cash, but less short on time.
But if you insist on rebuilding, then get a vice.
The other thing i read was that the inner joint comes apart far more easily, and then you can just slide the new boot on from the inside end.
