I bought me a wagon on the weekend.
I'm not sure whats wrong with it yet, but the PO said blown HG.
So far I've driven it from the front of my house to my driveway after a long and painful wait for the battery to charge...

Oh , nice one!
I like an 850 T5 , they seem to go harder than later v70s , if they go I guess!
Maybe James's T5 motor into it if he wrecks it?
What's the hg plan? Pics!

I need to compression test the engine to ensure it's all good, but it certainly seems fine. The V70 T5 pulls hard.

1place to start is with pulling the plugs and have a look at them.
I let her idle for a while at home and there was no concerning plooms from the exhaust...
but plenty of oddities in the engine bay

Needs a roof spoiler and rear mudflap removal immediately!

James's electric seats go in too , be sure to get wiring from under seat plug to under dash as the pin out differs at the dash , release the wire from the plug and swap ( at either end I suppose...) Colour of wires is different too for some reason , my 850R seats went into V70 with wires swapped. See wiring diagrams. Not hard.

Rear mudflaps always look like an after thought on 850 wagons and V70s.
If you remove the front ones, it looks like something is missing. Personal opinion of course.
Drivers side seat should be electric right, but not memory?? I think my drivers side at least was electric in the 850 - Its a long time ago though.

Seats are a def possibility. just gotta haggle with James.
As it is both seats in the front are mechanical.

Pulled all the plugs last night and had a bit of a look see.
all of the plugs looked pretty good with the exception of 3 which had a build up of crud.
the plug holes for 3 and 4 had a reasonable amount of oil in them too.
Idle motor was disconnected.
After reassembly I took her for a bit of a drive.
A bit smokey out the exhaust (oil not coolant)
And only making 2-3psi
O2 Sensor light is on, so need to figure out which is stuffed. (maybe both?)
but otherwise seems to be running well.

Doesnt sound like 'that' much of a basket case.
It may not have two o2 sensors either.I might just be one.

Is it a 1994 or early 1995 car?

Just doing some reading and the Lambda light is the 'check engine' light.
Classic n00b mistake :)

So now I can get to reading some blinking leds and work out what she is upset about.

Havent been under here to see how many O2 sensors, but it might not be the issue anyway.

Ash is worried about the mudflaps, I'd be looking at getting the rego changed!!! :P

Looks like a nice ride though, I agree with Snoopy, the 850 I've got seems to go WAY harder than the S70T5 I had, and the V70R by a mile (as well as being more economical)

This is very true. My '95 850T5 went way harder than my '98 V70T5.
The 850 didnt seem a heap faster than the '97 S70T5 manual I had though.

'94 and '95 850T5s all seem quick compared to others.
