So I was at the wreckers today actually buying bits and pieces for my older V70 when I saw they had a 2000 model (second gen) V70 up there, looked kinda beaten up but I was surprised that both the power fold mirrors and the heated seats were there. The seats were torn to pieces and the heating elements looked like they had shorted out, but I did grab the mirrors and I grabbed the climate control switch with the switches for the seat heaters and the mirror switch.
I used my original console out of my car and took it apart. I was surprised to find that the actual switch on the circuitry IS ON IT even though my car doesn't have the seats. So I removed the plastic buttons from the one I bought and put them on my original one along with the mirror switch. I fixed the missing fuses in the center console but no, my seats do not heat up haha. Nor do the lights even come on. Probably because I'm missing the heating element and therefore the circuit is incomplete.
I also had a thought, I believe heated seats and power folding mirrors were optional extras, they were certainly common enough that they are likely to be prewired. I have had a look underneath my seats and I think there is a wire that goes nowhere under there.
Im taking my door trims off tomorrow and swapping the mirrors to see if they work. The mirrors I bought are broken as anything but I only need the motor (yet more hacking it seems....)
But I thought, if they don't work, could it be I have to get them activated at the dealer like I will for the trip computer on the older V70?
So yeah! Im excited, it looks like adding this stuff MAY be easier than first thought! If they don't work then it's soldering iron time :D
EDIT: I forgot to mention! After disconnecting the system, connecting the other box to test it (it sort of worked but it was a bit confused) and then returning my (now modified) box, my car is now telling me "SRS AIRBAG SERVICE URGENT". I hoped it would go away after returning the original system but it didn't. I disconnected the fuse for something about an airbag and that didn't fix it. Im going to try disconnecting the battery and reconnecting it tomorrow. And if that doesn't work, Im assuming its just a code that got thrown and I have to clear it with a computer?
