Today I lay to rest Sir Clutchmaster FX250 :(
I got the car running yesterday and wanted to go for a drive. First thing I noticed was that I couldnt select any gears. This has happened in the past when the car has sat for too long due to the clutch getting rusted to the pressure plate.
Thinking it was just another one of those times I engaged operation "stuck clutch" and bumped it a few times i gear with the pedal down. Didnt free it.
Rolled it down the driveway and bumped it on the starter with the pedal down and the brakes held. Didnt free it.
Went for a drive for about 20 minutes late in the afternoon when there was hardly any traffic. Drove almost the whole time with the pedal down. Didnt free it.
Pulled the gearbox this morning and removed the clutch pack and tipped it upside down. Didnt free it.
Gently inserted a flatblade screwdriver and pryed it up. Freed it but it also destroyed it :(
The plan now is to see if I can get my Yoshifab flywheel drilled for a Falcon clutch by the local clutch and brake place. Chances are there wont be enough room on the flywheel because its a Yoshi special but its worth a try! Im a little annoyed the clutch died this way and not from actual use but it has given me an excuse to get under the car and clean it all up and get it painted and ready for reinstallation of new parts.
In other related news, it pulls so nice with the EBC and Forge CBV. I was taking it quite easy because the fuel is old and LH still needs to learn but the few small pulls I did in 3rd were so good. Boost response and onset are snappy especially when its brought over 3k. I was smiling from ear to ear even though the clutch was broken. I might look into installing the weaker spring that comes with the Forge CBV to see if I can reduce the dump flutter at low boost. Then again, if I do and it still makes that sound I wont be upset hahaha.
Here are some photos of the post mortem.
Those who have seen this scene before will know what I was feeling hahaha
Live on the coast they said :|
HOLD ON!
RIP
Dirty boi, will have to do something about this
Also underrated: ATV lift and pine sleeper for gearbox removal on the ground. Made it SOOOO much easier. Keen to see how it works on the reverse of installation
