Every experience I've ever had with aftermarket EMS suggests it is more work rather than less work :P
To add to that - the 740's EMS stopped being lots of work when I just bit the bullet, gutted the whole system, renewed all the sensors, replaced shitty plugs, replaced seals, injectors, etc etc, basically got everything running to spec. Then it was running 13psi with fuel and timing chips and never had a single issue.
My attitude as a result is that if you are unwilling to replace lots of stuff at once then you are going to constantly be chasing down that failing sensor or that leaky seal.

I agree to move away from lh Ryan... But you've not been working and can still save that much? I don't stop working and I seem to not be closer to a good qaulity air compressor For my own house mind you.

Im quite frugal though and im in a different position too. I dont have a mortgage (yet) and dont go out very much and we dont buy expensive or large amounts of groceries. Not saying that you do, but living in Griffith where everything was expensive it made us alot more aware of our spending and how to save costs. Gumtree became our best friend and we would be constantly scouring the free section for anything that we could use or repurpose. So now that I have a proper job the extra money I have that I dont need to spend can go into savings to get things finished!

So back on the subject of my car, the Gatebil sticker added about 10kW

I think I have a spare 360 pan (nos) if you want to build up a motor in advance
Though I think a b4204 would be the best motor for it if you dont mind a slightly custom bell housing etc...

Got rid of the rattles and tidied up some paint today!

After driving the 360 over the weekend I can confirm that it is heaps of fun, and has a lot of potential.
I loved driving it.

I have been slowly tidying the 360. I deleted the remaining aftermarket cruise control junk, and now the accelerator pedal doesn't sound like nails on chalkboard when you push it. I bled the brakes and I think introduced a bunch of air (whoops!) so I need to re-bleed them. I'm considering having a shop do a power bleed, as the reservoir is pretty grotty.
I hit the pedal box with various hammers to get the accelerator pedal resting level with the brake, as before it was much lower down, and heel-toe shifting was difficult unless you had outstanding ankle mobility.
I repaired(!) the broken headlight adjuster rods on the passenger side, the the passenger headlight no longer points into the sky.
I replaced the passenger side tail light assembly with one that wasn't missing a reverse lens, direct from NZ.
I started deleting the A/C by removing the condenser.
I tightened up the driving light mounts and straightened out the panels a bit at the front.
Removed dead plant matter from engine bay
Discovered EGR system has a huge hole in it on the hardline that loop around the back of the block, from the exhaust manifold to the intake side. That explains why engine sounded lumpy. Might also explain the occasional rough idle. Entire EGR system will be deleted as soon as I get around to getting new exhaust gaskets etc.
I also ordered (@Raebird, you might be interested in this) a length of 6061 aluminium bar. I'm going to set it on the lathe and turn out a new steering column donut to replace the rubber one, which is epically split, and introduces a looooot of play into the steering.
Finally, I am talking to @AshDVS and others and planning out new suspension components.

Chalkboard paint....interesting. Did you really just use a roller? Looks okay to me!
jamesinc
Yeah. If you rub chalk over it you can see the roller lines.
A_Volvo_Driver
I look forward to driving the improved 360.
jamesinc
@A_Volvo_Driver I think the thing you'll like the best, is that the throttle cable needed adjustment... so the car never quite made it to WOT before. I'd say about 5% more power just from that lol.
A_Volvo_Driver
Sweet. This car has so much character.
jamesinc
I've bled the 360's brakes 3 times now and they're still full of air. Those rears are a nuisance. I pumped the pedal 70 god damn times and there's still air, I suspect caught in the rear drum on the driver's side, where there's no bleed nipple.

Time for discs mate
jamesinc
I think to adapt it to discs I'd have to give the car to Ash for a bit.
A_Volvo_Driver
Now you're talking! Ash will get it handling very nicely. Make it so.
