Volvo 740 Speaker size

Hey guys I'm trying to upgrade my car audio speaker for a 1990 740 sedan

And I can't seems to find correct information on the door speaker sizes

I’m just looking through some older posts and I was wondering if you found a solution? I thought about looking into it myself, until I saw the offset mounts on the front speakers.

I hate the idea of having to drill holes into mint door cards.

you might need to measure the speaker diameter

Yeah I just realised what I asked

I the front door speaker is a 6inch and the back is 5 1/4 inch but they are weirdly mounted

Front speakers are oversize 6.5"

In the USA they are known as 7" frequently or 6.75"

Rear door are 5.25"

Best mounting method is rivets just like the factory used

Rear is 5.25, bolt directly in after drilling rivets out.

Front you can fit a 6.5, modify the grills slightly and it will look factory. You do want one of the smaller 6.5s though. Alpine are very large, kicker are nice and compact. I have Kicker KS front back and they sound great.

Sounds promising. Can you share a photo of any modification you did of the door/grill with the new speakers in place.

I think the factory speakers are pretty respectable for sound considering their age, but as my car already has a modern head unit it would be beneficial to add a speaker upgrade. But I don’t want to sacrifice the factory look.

Will grab one for you tomorrow night. Basically just involved dremelling some depth off the factory ribs then folding the top and bottom mesh out slightly

Yeah I pretty much ended up going for a 6.5 pioneer at the front I did have dremell a bit of the front door card u can actually fit (squeeze) the original speaker cover over them but it did not end up looking as good as the cover I got with the speaker.

The 5.25 at the back it pretty much plug and play.

it did screw both front and back speakers in while adding some backing to the screws

My back speakers are kicker ones though, I did grab pioneers for the front as it had heaps of mounting points

Bede, did you bypass the the rear door speakers? Or have you now got a 6 speaker setup?
