I well the weekend got busy and we were stuffed by the end of the car show but the old man won a prize for best competition car in show.
Didn't help me get work done on the Volvo though so tonight after making my lads dinner I thought I'd have a crack at the gear selector button with the ipd spring and button replacement.
After watching one of the videos online there were some easy handy hints that saved me a bunch of time. I think it was about 15mins all up.
First grip with 2 hands and pull the selector off (easy)
Then push a screwdriver up to mimic the gear selector rod and this pushes the button proud. Grab it and with two thumbs pull it out from the top.
Like so but with 2 thumbs
Then note the orientation of the spring. Push the rod to release it and pull it out.
Push the rod back on to hold the new spring in place.
Replace and then insert a flat Or thin wedge to keep the spring out and insert it into the half square on the rear of the new button.
Swap over the top rod into the new button too. Reinsert the bottom whilst keeping the spring in place and then remove the flat blade or screwdriver.
Gently push it back in and test it with a screwdriver, if you can shoot the screwdriver out the bottom of the selector by pushing the button its all working.
Reinstall by first getting this ring at the top of the gear boot to mate with the clips on the bottom of the selector. Then bang it down to seat it, test and you're away.
Such a niggly thing when it's busted, so good now, one less thing to be annoying.
