  • [NSW / Sydney] Early 240 non-AC PS bracket

Hi all,

Does anyone have a factory non-aircon power steering bracket for an early 240 that they're happy to sell?

Having stupidly bought a new bracket but which only suits the later PS pump, I'm weighing-up whether it's worth all the effort of fitting a newer pump or whether to retain the (perfectly fine) Saginaw pump if I can find one of these brackets ...

Should have at least one somewhere. Let me consult the boxes of things...

Don't have one here, the Tassie stash should hold the treasure you seek. Just waiting on confirmation.

If your still chasing this not so common part, I have one in good condition in Canberra.

Thanks Anthony ... I think I’ve found one in a workshop-that-also-sells-parts in Sydney (well ... halfway to Canberra in reality ?).

But I’ll keep you in mind, ‘cos the guy doing the selling was pretty sure it’s an aircon-only bracket that I need, maybe he had a ‘verbal typo’ over the ‘phone or maybe he’s right ... but I’m wary ‘cos I’d not heard before that it might be the same bracket. This guy did sound pretty confident & he was clearly working on/with Volvos when 24x’s were being built & imported to here, plus work keeps needling me to take some annual leave, so I’ll use that trip across town as a reason to take a day off.

I have an air con only bracket and they do look pretty similar but I'm not sure they're identical.

Hey @jamesinc is that bracket easy to get to? Could I borrow it? If that's a possibility, I wouldn't mind taking it with me out to Moorebank when I go pick up the bracket they have (to make sure I don't get the one I know won't work).

Interestingly there's a bracket on eBay in the UK claiming to be a PS bracket, and I suspect it may be for the teardrop-shaped PS pump because I don't think such a thing exists for the newer pump (which could be misinformation based on US & AU markets of course), but it ain't got no arms so is a bit useless to me:

Wait a sec ... this poast did not get poasted! ---> hits poast button

Anthony in Canberra has this bracket and pump available - 2 pics below

This suits a B21/23 engine. FYI, B230 engine pulleys sit further out due to the harmonic balancer and have a different pump design anyway.

The pic of the UK bracket (via Forg) is off a B230 engine with the small round power steering pump sitting below the rh side exhaust manifold.

On a B21/23 this is where the alternator is located.

Thanks @Anthony ... my plan is to suss-out the guy in Moorebank, I'll print that photo of yours to take with me, and if that fails (probably be next Monday when they re-open) I'll be in touch regarding me going on a "short road-trip" some time maybe during the week ...

That's a hefty looking bracket with pissy arms for the pump, can it be all one fabricated unit?

Just a U folded up with extra arm welded on,cutouts for the pump.

If tensioner needed that's easy too.

Is your question "is it easier or faster or cheaper or more effective to fabricate something out of metal from scratch than to drive across town & buy one", I'm about 95% sure the answer is "no". ?

In today's traffic I'd chew my leg off before driving anywhere........
