I have been asked on many occasions to do weddings in my 164, the only problem being that it is near impossible in this part of the world to get another 1 or 2 to form a set. It is always very difficult to find a suitable car to partner with it. This is what originally inspired me to go on the hunt for another one to clean up so that i had a partner for mine. In my travels i came across a guy with a '72 164e for sale with spares, i went for a look only to discover that amongst the massive array of spares were 2 more 164's. I subsequently bought the lot.
On top of ALOT of parts I ended up with 1 x '72 164e in white, in reasonable shape, it has been unregistered for about 5 years but is still quite ok, needs a few bits and pieces and a good clean up.
The second car is another '72 164 with twin carbs, this car is in a thousand pieces but seems to be almost complete, it is red in colour, but has a mismatched front and doors fitted, it is a manual and has had a celica 5spd conversion at some stage.
The third car is a '73 164e, also in white, it has been converted back to carbs at some stage, it has an ugly aftermarket sunroof and the paint is awful, the car is near complete with only a few trim pieces missing, it has some rust in the rear quarters and sills and is not running at this stage.
My project is set to be based on car number 3, my reasons for choosing this car is that I much prefer the '73 styling (and it matches my current car), it has the orange interior that i like, and as i intend on turning it into a coupe, the rust in the rear is not important. I didn't want to cut up car number 1 as it is too good. Car number 2 will become a spare parts source if required.
This brings me to car number 4.. I have purchased a '70 142 that will donate its doors and rear section to the cause, although it is a running drivable vehicle, it needs alot of work.
Here is a picture of all of the cars
I have always loved volvo coupes and had a 242gt for a few years, I think the 164 front looks great attached to the 2 door rear, my intention is to keep the body looking as though volvo had made it that way with the styling clean and simple but improved... not unlike my 164.
