Damn! Might sound crazy but have you priced a long block from GM?

Thanks, but that's a LFX. I need a LLT.
LFX has the exhaust headers cast as part of the heads. ECM is different too. LFX superseded the LLT. LLTs haven't been made in OZ since 2010 and not sold in new cars since 2011. Admittedly I haven't tried Motors yet.
Before Covid just over a year ago, there was a bloke named Peter who ran a business on the Sunshine Coast of QLD, IIRC, who did rebuilt exchange long engines for a very reasonable price - i.e. with warranty if fitted by a shop, new timing chains, new rings and bearing, new water and oil pumps, but no ancillaries. Hindsight is wonderful - the ask for his reco'ed long engine is what the wreckers want for a mega-mile sludger now.
Trouble is anything not reconditioned is gonna need timing chains, tensioners, and sprockets at an absolute minimum to be reliable, and it's too late once it's bought to complain about the sludge when it's opened up.
Apparently you can swap llt to lfx

True, however LLT to LFX isn't a straight swap. From reading the Just Commodores and Cadillac forums, it seems the exhaust in the engine bay will need to be modified. There are physical ECU and software BCM changes required, there's a sump and front cover replacement needed to fit a VE, and the crate engine will need a full set of sensors to suit the LFX plus a new engine harness.
Need LLT.

Might be worth asking holmart what's involved since they suggest it can be used to replace lfx but I thought you just needed to get ve2 exhaust and you run your existing sensors and intake manifold, ecu BCM etc...
"When fitting to VE Models with an existing LFX engine,
you will need to swap over your front timing / camshaft covers, sump & pickup from your current engine"
I have a spare Chrysler LA 488 you can have if your thinking engine swap ?

Heh. If changing from LLT, only engine swap I'd consider is redblock +t, and I'm trying very hard to excise that thought.

Any possibility a 3800 would bolt in?
I'm tripping over supercharged 3800's here every day....

Same hassles as fitting anything that's not an LLT.
Besides, I'm already tripping over redblocks in the shed - three L blocks without heads, two B234 heads, a 531 head, a 405 head, a B234 complete, and a complete L block B230F with 531. Then there's a complete K block B230F with a 530 and AW70 as well. Plus a B21 block and 160 head, but heh.
Meanwhile on the mainland, I have an LY7 needing a rebuild with a 4L60E, next to a B6304S / AW30-40LE and a B234F / AW72L both with blown head gaskets. The irony is, of course, I need the ute working to get the latter engines home.

Thanks for looking @Roinik - but private sale from that locale would mean shipping problems.
Tried Bursons, best price they can do is a long reconditioned LLT engine for $5800 exchange. :(
Therefore the existing engine is getting a hot tank birthday, not cheap but cheaper than that, and coin better spent than the same amount upon mega-mile exchange engines full of sludge.
Mods please close.
