Hi all,
I'm not certain whether I'm going to sell my 1996 850R wagon, but I'm driving less these days and my lifestyle is also probably better suited to my second car (Mitsubishi Delica spacegear) which given the fewer km I'm doing could probably be my main vehicle now.
I haven't really tracked the value of 850R wagons but do occasionally see some pretty high asking prices. I don't know if they ever actually sell for these prices, and also understand there are a few items of work mine would eventually need to be a great example of the car. So I'm trying to get some opinions of what a fair asking price would be if I do decide to sell it.
Good things:
- km not super high at about 190,000
-Factory manual transmision
- starts and runs very well.
-Body very straight. No rust or dents, some clear coat peel in front left fender only. Bumpers faded and the paint I meticulously applied peeling...
-interior generally good condition, although steering wheel leather peeling.
-parts fitted in the 5 years or so I have owned the car include new kinugawa turbo CHRA, the larger outlet turbine housing, custom made turbo back 3" exhaust (including cat converter), cold air intake, heater core and hoses, plugs/leads/caps, most new engine mounts, reconditioned driveshafts, tie rod ends and ball joints, front brake pads and battery in the last couple of years.
-Always run on 98 octane fuel and with oil changes each 5000 km
Bad things
-slow coolant leak from end tank of radiator
- blows oil smoke after idling a while and taking off again, which I believe would be the reason the car requires oil top up occasionally. Couldn't really say how often as I don't do many km on the car now, but if daily driving I think this would be significant enough that you'd want to fix it. I suspected turbo was responsible hence new turbo chra but I now believe more likely valve stem seals. I have valve stem seals and head gasket/bolts kit to replace these but never got around to it.
-rattle from somewhere under load that I have never been able to track down. Has done this since I have owned the car and has not been terminal in that time, but I also don't know what it is. There's a thread somewhere in here describing my search for it and where I got to.
-rego due mid Jan 2020 (but also can't think of any reason the car would not pass).
So, any ideas what a fair price would be if i take the plunge and offload the car?
