Had some time this morning that I wanted to make use of to address some little niggles that have been annoying me. I've had a pretty bad NVH issue - vibration through the steering wheel, seat and floor, so I wanted to chase that around and work through it a bit.
The first part of this was an obvious one, that likely just came about in a rush to put it back together after having things apart so many times. As a generalisation, I think that the Do88 'big pack' intercooler and pipework kit is good but clearances are tight and with a little bit more thought, it could have been way better. Of course, my first issue is clearance of the upper hard pipe against the fuel rail cover. Easy to resolve with a smart wriggle around of things, with a couple of minor changes in the radius of bends, you'd never run the risk of having issues like these.
Undoing it at both ends, spacing it up and tightening everything back up resolved about 70% of my NVH issues
So, I then began chasing around the engine bay with the engine idling with a stethescope, looking for vibrations, rubs, checking bushes, etc, etc. Naturally, the last one I check is where the issue lies - I've got a delrin upper engine mount fitted and the noise transmitted through the steering wheel was as a result of this.
So, I swapped that out for a urethane one and all my issues are gone.
If you can tolerate the issue in NVH that the delrin mount brings in order to have a tighter feeling, then it's a great addition. If you want a tight, new feeling road car, it isnt for you.
