Hi all,
I thought I would provide some feedback about this kit which I have had running on my project 240 for a little while.
I purchased a partly completed project with this brake kit fitted, and got it all running and engineered in October this year.
My observations:
The engineer that I consulted was happy with the fit, design and construction of the brackets and the fitment of the rotors and calipersThe OEM 240 master cylinder did not fit with the 1UZ v8 engine swap so I had to run something differentAfter much mucking around, I opted for a Nissan R33 GTR 27mm master cylinder and a Nissan S13 booster. This decision was made after testing a few different options. I initially tried an R33 GTS-t and an S14 200SX master, but each had too much rear bias, leading to the rear brakes locking prematurely. The bias with the R33 GTR master cylinder works much better.Because the XR6 calipers only run a single brake line, I did away with the beautiful but complex Volvo diagonal-split braking system and converted it to a traditional front/rear brake split (which is what the R33 master was designed for). I used the OEM brake distribution block and simply re-plumbed it, keeping the OEM brake failure switch in place. I had new braided lines made for the front calipers because the supplied lines did not work with the OEM type chassis bracketsBecause I did away with the diagonal split, the car required a full brake test under the Brake Test Manual, including static and dynamic tests. Fortunately the car passed with flying colours and satisfied the brake test engineer. On the road, the brakes are sensational. The engineer who certified the car (a different engineer who did the brake test) was very impressed with the brakes, both in pedal feel and in stopping performance. The car is not overly powerful but the brakes have no trouble pulling it up with the v8 swap and gives lots of confidence.
Cheers
Chris
