  • FOUND Redblock clutch pilot bearing retainer/spring clip

As per title - wondering if anyone has one of these sitting around gathering dust that they’d be willing to part with for a reasonable price and pop in an envelope and post to me. Part number is 6842797...used on most RWD Volvo engines with manual transmission. I just placed an FCP order but they don’t stock it unfortunately. Prob could get from dealership but don’t want to pay thru the nose for it and not going into Melb due to COVID19. Of course GCP has it for $2 but postage is about $20 LOL! Volvo Penta dealer here about $10 but postage $20...thoughts? Anyone doing a GCP or Skandix order in the near future and want to grab one for me? No rush...willing to swap something for it if anyone has 240 bits they might need.

I need to put an order in for some new rack boots, valve stem seals, hushers, tailgate seal and intake gasket (and a few other parts) soon.

Otherwise I'll do a shed search this weekend.

In my experience it isnt critical. I probably did about 100 000km without one. I didnt realise there was even meant to be one when i first did a manual conversion.

Due to the shape of the input shaft i dont think the bearing could come out of the back of the crank even if it did manage to move. Never moved in my crank when i didnt have the clip installed.

Thanks Guys. I’d prefer to put one in just because...since there’s no rush I’m sure I’ll come across somebody who can help or eventually I can buy one...I have a selection of snap rings (circlips)...might find a suitable size!!

Something is tickling the back of my heat to say that there is a standard size circlip that fits

Otherwise.... I can check the pile of blocks I have to see if any still have one

Regardless, I agree with @VolvoHordz that its really not required, especially if you use some super glue as lube to help it slide in.....

TBH I’m more worried now about my M46 and how the clutch fork and pivot ball are going to work with the LH2.4 dished flywheel! Maybe that’s another thread in the works! :) So yes, if it comes time to install the transmission and I still don’t have a retainer, no dramas...could be months (or years) away at the rate my projects progress LOL!

There are a couple different clutch fork styles, open ended and closed ended. In anycase they are interchangable and dont matter flat v's dished flywheel.

Pretty confident in saying the pivots are one in the same.

The difference in assembled height of dished vs flat flywheel and corresponding clutch and pressure plate is not that significant. My understanding is that it is negated by the clutch realease bearing. The flat flywheel version is taller than the dished flywheel version.

Thx for that feedback...makes me feel a bit more confident about it! :)

Pretty sure I have a few clips under the house, I will take a look. There may be a couple new in the pack if you're lucky.

Thanks guys. James is posting me one so all good!

Hi @jamesinc Thanks - clip arrived in the post. I had to laugh as it was meticulously-taped to a bit of cardboard with paint overspray and a greasy fingerprint on it - looks exactly like all the cardboard in my shed LOL! Have a great COVID-19-free day! :)

No worries, and yeah haha I didn't think the clip would mind what cardboard it was stuck to ?

I used 35mm circlip, works perfectly and only 85c from my hardware

I have new oem units here I stock under $10 from memory at Berry Motor Group 03 98745544
