so what im looking to get some ideas on, is big brake conversions/ adaptors. etc.
later model volvo calipers or just plain after market kits. ie wilwood, brembo, apracing etc. and larger rotors.
to suit 7series
Ex850R
@AshDVS , He is the barking Dude here. Has kits , can get kits and úber pads....
deleted_user_160
yeah. @AshDVS come organise me

You can go with the 302mm rotor from P80 V70R fairly easily. Depending on the year of your 7/9 series, it may not be anything more serious than bolting on the caliper hangers, rotors and finding some suitable pads.
Of course, this isnt a 'serious' brake upgrade - it still uses a sliding caliper, but you will see some decent improvement in stopping ability and pedal feel.
Wilwood options are popular in the US - they're a great caliper and you shouldnt let anyone tell you any different, but they do require maintenance. Some models of caliper are really intended to be race calipers and do not have dust seals. Not ideal for a DD unless you're a fastidious insane person (ie. they'd be fine for me!)
Brembo and AP options are both doable but you'll be likely venturing into the territory of making up adaptors, etc and working out if you can get an off-the-shelf rotor to work or perhaps a two-piece hat and rotor setup.

@jonbot I think Jon is putting 336mm XC90 Brakes on his 940, so it should be same as 740s

i would prefer at lease a large 4pot or a nice 6pot. and some bad ass big rotors with the least amount of personal manufacturing needed.
its all for a 88 7 estate.
calvintibia001
Well, Large 4Pot, I think you either go with Wilwood or go S60R brakes with 330mm disc. But these will cost $1000+
deleted_user_160
hmmm the v70r use what callipers?
Ex850R
ARRRRRRR Calipers me hearty!
calvintibia001
V70R uses the same 4pot Brembo as the S60R
Rob

That is correct for the P2
The P80 V70R uses 850/x70 calipers with a bigger rotor and different mount.
deleted_user_160
calipers is what i said...?
ok excellent. so thats the one i want then! cool. so some v70r calipers bolt onto the factory mounts on the 7? with the larger v70r rotors
Rob
which V70R calipers are you referring to.
P2 or P80
deleted_user_160
based on what the brake boys said. v70r :D
but your saying there are big differences between p2 and p80
which generation am i looking for?
AshDVS
P80 - 1997-2000 V70R.
302mm rotors and sliding calipers. Uses the same caliper as other models (incl 850) but a different carrier/hanger.
Reasonable pad varieties available.
P2 - 2004-2008 S60R and V70R
330mm rotors (32mm thick) with real calipers. Volvo branded Brembo. 4 piston, not sliding design. Still uses a one-piece rotor.
The calipers are very easy to rebuild, there are LOTS of pad varieties available. Expect to run into some wheel clearance/offset issues when fitting to a RWD Volvo.
Non R models do not use these brakes.
Which are you looking for greatly depends on what you want to do.
Wilwood are priced very well for what they are, but beware of no dust seals as mentioned above.

hmmmmmm, i wonder if @iceton1975 has any on the shelf?
im building my own 17" wheels so no issue there.
Rob
I'd reckon you could bet on it.
Ex850R
Betting ?? Who said betting ?? I will lay two Bob he hasn't!
deleted_user_160
If he doesn't I just stumbled across a set of (fronts) 4piston rotor and hat with mounts for an 850 $900
Now let's see what I can swindle. For second handies, and some new one piece rotors.
Rob
4 pistons for an 850? what are they? they certainly aren't stock.
