dmc Look at the angle of the belt coming off the water pump pulley. Something is out of alignment, likely the lower mount the alternator sits in.
morch_66479 Yeah I noticed that. Maybe it should be mounted more to the rear to align the belts and also get that adjusting screw away from the pulley ?
DCW242 Looks like the rubber mounts are worn, causing it to sit out of alignment. The adjuster being too close to the water pump pulley is probably from the belts being too short, I think the correct size is 10X920.
morch_66479 All rubber mounts are worn so I need new ones. Is this mounted correctly? Are the bushes in the correct locations? Also it all looks to be out of line, if i fit new bushes, tighten everything up and replace the alternator adjusting bolt it should be ok.

All mounts are worn :/ The belts seem to be correct from my research. I'm running DAYCO Top Cog - 11A0925 belts and that's what's recommended. If I install new bushes and tighten everything back to where it should be it will bring the alternator into alignment and the adjuster screw should clear the pulley. Will update as I go :)
dmc The bushes push from the inside of the lower mount to the outside. There should be a shoulder on the inside edges. These are the parts numbers you need, Volvo and Skandix.
fearfulmaster dmc Good to see that the volvo parts guide and online ordering is now available in Australia. https://parts.volvocaraustralia.com.au/a/Volvo_1993_940-23l-Fuel-Injected/144091638__12286872/Compressor/GR-58077.html#5 Some prices are almost reasonable but $153 for a bushing 😮 Luckily found some in my stockpile so no need to order from rockauto.

Is one of them part numbers for the top bush to hold the adjuster arm on up top?
dmc All three bushes are the same. Also the power steering and A/C compressor too. There should be 9 bushes in a 240. Yours looks like it just wore through, they do that. The one for the adjuster feels wrong when you install it, it just sits there and the adjuster can fall off. It is correct, though feels wrong. Remember the earth wire from the alternator to the top bolt of the mount too, if you take it off. It will be blue. Without that there is nothing for the alternator to connect to the ground, as it is rubber insulated, and it will not charge anything. You will want to fix it, left like that the front bearing in the alternator will be worn out, and that starts getting expensive. Seems you are onto it though.
morch_66479 Got this all sorted thanks to Angus. Everything is aligned and no rubbing. Thanks for the help again guys :)
morch_66479 fearfulmaster any of those items marked with 'GCP' in the description usually means the parts are overseas and need to be brought in. GCP orders are usually shipped every few months so your best bet is to buy from GCP direct. This is what I've been doing for my 850 restoration 👌
fearfulmaster morch_66479 Thanks for filling in. I have heard of ipd, fcpeuro, rockauto and some others but didn't know what GCP is / means.
Forg I assume they’re still available (maybe not) but all the engine-accessory bushes were available from SuperPro when I needed them 20yrs ago. I doubt the market for such things for 240’s has shrunk since then TBH, and at the time they were no more exxy than OEM rubber. I guess no cheaper either, but at least I’ve never needed to replace the 20yo bushes … 😄
fearfulmaster Forg I ordered a radiator for a 940 from supercheap about 10yrs ago. Repco and dealer also had them back then. I was going through the supercheap parts guide while looking at bushings and radiator is not listed any more. Less cars, less demand, less local availability.
Major Ledfoot fearfulmaster but didn't know what GCP is / means. Genuine Classic Parts, aka Ecris AB. https://www.gcp.se/en_usd They sell OE parts for older Volvos which dealers don't keep in stock any more. To order with them, you need to know the part number(s) of what you want. They will ship most items very quickly.
Forg fearfulmaster I was thinking in terms of something which you might put in the category of “performance part” because it’s SuperPro, I don’t know that there are necessarily fewer people fitting “performance parts” to what are now 50yo cars than what then were 25yo cars. A radiator is more in the general maintenance category (although thinking about it - they probably didn’t sell as many 940’s in the first place as there are still 240’s registered).
