My car is my daily driver, so no issues for me there. Ben will your 240 be ready, I want to be taken for a drive and hear the whine.
I need to gather some troops to do my mods. I can't install gearbox, cam, head, etc on my own. Volunteers will need to supply the garage, tools, expertise, and I'll be your friend? Lol

Hi James
No you don't have to tell them, as long as the car is registered, and you sign the book I spoke with the vice president last night of the Volvo club infact any club here in Victoria as long as you follow the club permit rules.
Or you can direct them to the AMOC here in Victoria, I am not sure about other states, I do know that our club permit does not allow us to drive to WA a permit is required.

WA also doesn't reciprocate on UVP's so likely wider stuff than just club rego's.

I hope we can maybe affiliate with the clubs as their forum. IMO that would help them and help us.

Club members are free to use the forum, but I don't want the club boards to feel like they can or should have any kind of input into how the forum is run or the nature of its content.
Ben
That's smart James. That's also the issue I ran into when looking at a forum for the Vic club years ago. It just wasn't worth the hassle of being seen to be providing advice etc and the old school having a say.

The politics of being in a club sound brutal - I had thoughts of joining the VIC club, but am really put off now.
irishbastard
It's not that bad, lol
@A_Volvo_Driver, stuff like this is just a little bit of commotion, nothing to worry about really, the club permit scheme will work it self out, no need to worry ;)
Ben
Sounds worse than it is lol

* Mod mode engaged - @iceton1975 Mark and @Ex850R Les, ease up a bit, Young and Auld Sons. Despite what you might feel, Lance has done a good job of collating records etc, especially with regards to the GT register. Despite what else that may be happening with these gents in control (and I am not a part of it), we still need to behave like gentlemen and not descend into ad hominem attacks. You both know this better than others. Voltaire once said (and I paraphrase) "You may not agree with what they have to say, but I will fight to the death their right to say it." Robust, elegant and well thought through discussion. Leave the bastardry to the thugs.

Too right, will do.

Ok will do, but I can stand my own ground, and vote him out at the next election

I love clubs.
Ben
I love pubs.

Yup, wonders of democracy. If enough people don't like it next time the vote comes around it will change.

A quorum can be obtained by other members and things can change real quick if you read the rules ..
If you wanna go that way.

Ok guys have been hearing the comments and suggest that there may be a little bit of ill-informed or un-informed comment.
Firstly the Volvo Club of Victoria (Inc) is a member club of the AOMC and as such is recognised by VicRoads as a authorised club for the Club Permit Scheme.
The rules for the Victorian Club Permit Scheme are readily available on the VicRoads site, from the AOMC or from the club.
It is currently a build date (not compliance date) of 25 years or more.
You can have 45 or 90 days log book use.
All other States except WA recognise Victorian vehicles on the Club Permit Scheme.
Now the bad news:
Due to the number of breaches of the rules, VicRoads, Victorian Police and the AOMC have sought to tighten the rules (while I personally do not believe in this, I also think it is an overreaction because some people decided to flaunt the rules).
On the 17th May the AOMC will inform us of what the changes are and when they will come into effect.
I will have those changes posted on the Volvo Club Website.
One proposed change will be that an authorised club official physically sights the car at least once a year.
Another is that the club member attends a certain number of events or meetings (I note we have many country members).
The 25 years may also be changed to 30 years but I must say that had always been the intent from day one.
As a driving force in getting the current VicRoads Club Permit Scheme through the many burning hoops (over a period of four years) and as an authorised officer of the Volvo Club of Victoria I do not share the beliefs or rumoured beliefs of other members of the AOMC but if it becomes law I must abide by it.
If you have a car on the Club Permit Scheme, keep it on there and ensure your club membership is valid and you meet the terms and conditions.
Even if they change to 30 years all cars currently on the scheme will remain.
I have several cars on the scheme including a 760T and a 740HP Turbo which I only use two or three times a year.
We are all enthusiasts and clubs have and attract many types.
If you are a member of the Volvo Club of Victoria or thinking of becoming a member and have concerns please contact either myself or one of the other committee members.
Ben, I'm sure we can detour via Canberra with an extra car for you and Tina to drive to Parkes (what would you like me to bring?).
Finally, any attacks direct at Lance for instance (or me) please note that he / we are not only acting in the best interest of the club, we are legally bound (and audited) to carry out the functions of our positions within the club.
We are also acutely aware of adverse publicity in regards to the club permit scheme (there were many public detractors when the scheme was initiated and they have been busy gathering ammunition).
Enjoy your cars, join the club and the forum, and behave yourselves because others will judge you on how you act and behave, and as Volvo lovers we still have a bloody long way to go to be accepted.
Spac
If the rumours are true, and there is a push within the Victorian Volvo Club to exclude vehicles that meet VicRoads' requirements, then it will destroy the club in a slow, painful process.
I'm involved in a similar situation involving Classic Motocross bikes, and no good comes of it. If the Vic Volvo club really believe that they will benefit by excluding the 700s and/or 200s, then they need to clearly make themselves a "Pre-240 Volvo club", either by renaming the existing club or by starting their own new club.
The pretence of being all encompassing without being all encompassing is a sure-fire recipe to anger, frustration and failure.
I hope I'm wrong on this - I hope it's just a misunderstanding on the effect of the possible change to 30-years-old, and it's effect on the 25~29 year old cars.
