  • Jul 23 and I am still playing there albeit slowly, but that was always my plan, getting the 1973 Volvo Parts Catalogue was a bonus as I had kinda forgotten how things were meant to go back together ???

I am now happy that the front suspension will be finished by the weekend, will then reunite the engine and gearbox onto the suspension and slide it back where it came from.

A brand new engine bay loom and every bit of the DJet all brand new it should be an easy start from here.

    More to follow

  • Scary ain’t it, my pair of 144’s way back in 1983, complete with mandatory stubbies short shorts and Volvo t shirt, aaarghhhh

the yellow one was a 144S,and had 68000 miles in it, and M40 boc, great car, the ‘first’ Harry

    The white one 2as a gem, 144gl, b20e, m41 box, it became a race car ?

  • Hi there in old Volvo land ?

Harry, my 1973 144 GL, is apart ATM andI was thinking it would be a perfect time to get the seals and washers on the M41 done whilst it is out and accessible.

it was working well and the overdrive engaged and disengaged positively and smoothly, and no leaks from either the gearbox or overdrive units when the car was last driven.

I am looking at just a service and inspection, and replacing all the seals, gaskets and washers but specifically was looking for recommendations on a specialist individual or workshop that could do the work for me.

all help appreciated, prefer a Sydney option but happy to have it shipped interstate if needed.

  • Hi there the Volvo brain trust ? always wondered why it was only old blokes had wicked cars then realised the only time you have to do stuff is when you are heading towards or already retired, in my case I just joined those long haired, mung bean eating, dope smoking Blue Mountains types as a ‘professional’ retiree, and NOW can put a bit of time into getting Harry back on the road…..getting a pair of mints Cibie Oscars to make it a 4 Cibie (2 Super Oscar and 2 Oscar) rally look certainly has assisted motivation. Retired yesterday ?

  • If I squint and guess a bit, along with reading between the lines Pierrurg could be Pierburg which would make sense, my fuel pump is a Pierburg.....

  • Hi there the amazing folk out there In DJet land, this caused me a aaarghhh moment followed by a hmmmmmm moment, I had this in my beautifully catalogued zip lock plastic bags that held all the sensors and other widgets fro Harry’s DJet system, problem is I did not mark this bag, and now can’t seem to find a place for it to go. The writing on it says ‘ A.Pierrurg R G Germany P E 20271/3.2 12V 9058, guessing by the holes in the base and sides of the sensor it would be oil or fuel, and with Pierrurg most likely fuel? Any ideas appreciated, the other possibility it is not DJet stall and just a Mark Workshop random drop by to mess with my head sensor

  • A good morning playing with the Harry-car B20E, new high flow IPD oil pump in, lots of red goop (Race Line pre-assembly lube) all through the bottom end, rods and pistons, new IPD rear main and front timing cover, new steel and alloy timing gears, sump and gearbox support brace on and trial fit of the head with all the bits hanging off it, and back on the engine stand for the next stage of re-assembly. Huge thanks to my brotherMatt (Walton Motorsports) and his son Adam, needed a bit of manpower quite a few times this morning ?

  • Hi Greg, I asked if there was a Bluetooth and tuneable one for my B20E and was told no, so mine is also the basic one, any tricks I should know about?.

    • Hmmm sometimes Australia Post are deliverers of nice things ?

a huge thank you to all of you lovely people in Volvo land that have helped me in my naively as Harry’s’rebirthing’ slowly continues, seriously could NOT have done it without you all.

    • Wooops Ian, so sorry, thank you Ian for YOUR Alladins cave plastic bag treasure trove ???

    • Hi there 252GT ? I’m trying to find that out, will get back to you, really appreciated, would have thought that a ‘normal’ rubber O ring would not last and so guessing it would be made of something like the the phenolic washers?

    • Hi there 144-1971, as always, I’m very appreciative of your advice and ongoing engagement, I bit the bullet and have a 123 dizzie on order, it’s a 64th birthday pressie to myself, Harry’s build is going to take a bit of time so will happily wait for however long the current crazieness lasts, your parts, including the vacuum retard mechanism (yes, that part from your photo, by the way like the green colour you did the alternator in) will all be cherished when we get moving again, in the meantime, I’ll keep plugging away doing ‘trialfits’ of parts I have finished. Hope you and yours are all ok ??

    • Hi Carnut, that diagram really helps, and Ian can send me some he has as spares, would not have thought you would have needed the lock washer and one above and one below the bolt, will now source the O ring, mine had none ?no washers, no O ring, hmmmmm

    • Hi Ian, thank you, it is really appreciated, 25 Frazer Road,SPRINGWOOD NSW 2777

    • Hi there Carnot, once again thank you for that information, and for the photo, will try George, so 8 would be for where the cast injector holder sits into the head, and the other 4 being smaller for the bolts between the cast holder and head?

      • Hi Paddock@Massey165, hmmm, I did, cost, 4 abrasive wheels, 6 sheets 600 - 1200 grit, MANY finger nails LOL, it was quite easy actually, those red nylon abrasive bluffing wheels that take varnish off wood do a brilliant job on alloy, the rest was detail, parts I could I did on a buff wheel, and three coats clear.
