140 My 1977 144 GL rebirth - a rally theme?

Mark_Walton56JB (@Mark_Walton56) Springwood Blue Mountains
Hi All! In other threads I have described how I got to have my 1973 144, and some of the processes being done to bring Harry back to alive. My good friend Grant Parker has hadHarry for the last 8 years, long story..., and recently restarted the paint and panel work I commissioned back in 2010 after he did a similar thing to AJ my 1985 Nissan 300 ZX. It is going ahead steadily, and after collecting a gazillion much needed bits over the last 18 months, am looking at starting putting them on ove Christmas. He was a service car in the 79 Repco, and I am looking at a 70s rally theme, hence thedished Black Mota Lita, the period Recaro rally seats, the Cibie Super Oscars and a number of other bits. The win was getting 4 Performance SuperLight MiniLite lookalikes over the weekend courtesy of my Nephew ERIC, ‘which wheel’ dilemma solved. They are 15 X 7 and should work a treat with a slightly lowered stance, Bilsteins etc. more to follow!E2eFXoeh.jpg

Hi anyone! My sun visors (internal) are totalled! Do 240 ones fit? All or any assistance appreciated, Harry’s make him look like an old man with bushy eyebrows! Cheers, Mark

AFAIK all 240 sedans and 2-doors have the same shape sun visors. May be colour variations though as some had black and or black top white bottom. Wagon visors are different.

Ooops, should have said ‘Harry’ is my being rebirthed 73 144, was hoping that 240 visors would fit a 144, seems good condition 144 visors are in the unobtanium category,

Thanks carnut22, good to know, I actually like the black and white ones!

Does the 144 have a hard headlining like the 240s? If so, I’d bet the visors are interchangeable. Worth a try. If you post some pics I can compare to the 240 ones I have.
  • From hazy memory you would need to switch all the mounting and clips but position should work. Unfortunately only 140 I have had no roof lining so isn’t super clear
  • The 144 head lining is soft vinyl with 3 or 4 Spring steel ribs that slip through vinyl tubes moulded into the upper side of the lining. A hard plastic strip is sewn around the edge so that the head lining can be stretched over a lip that runs the circumference of the roof internal.

    140 visors = 245 visors??
  • 140 visors = 245 visors??
Definitely sounds like the 144 headlining is like the 245, so that might stand to reason...worth a try!

  • Can you please tell me the tyre size you fitted on your minilite look alights. I am in the process of fitting the same rims to my 144 and tried 205 60 15 which did interfer with the reargard lip. My rims are15 x7 offset 12.5

That’s a pretty low offset (so it will push the wheels out a lot farther than the OE steel wheels which would have been around 40 mm offset on the early 140s; usually 240 wheels with 25 mm offset fit OK). I’ve successfully run 205-55-16 tyres on my 68 145 with no issues, but the wheels are 25 mm offset so will sit farther inboard than your wheels.

I'm running 16" x 7" superlites on the 242GT but got them machined to custom measurements I did myself when I rebuilt the suspension (king lowered springs, yellow adjustable Konis shocks, new diff & sway bar bushes).
The rear wheel arches on the 144 and 242 are pretty much same as I used my GTs road wheels as wets when racing the 144 sports sedan.
  • The stock 140 offset is 1/2" inwards. The 1968 trailing arms ar almost an inch shorter than the '74. The longer trailing arms mean that the tyre is pushed into the curvature of the wheel arch at the back, right where they rub.

I think you’re incorrect about the wheel offset. Earlier 140s had more offset than 240s, inward, and 240s were 25 mm offset “inwards” as you say...so I think the early 140s are about 35-40 mm inwards offset, which would be about 1.5 inches, not 1/2 inch.
