  • SEV Motorola 14/ 30amp Alternator

So I have one of these things that has eaten out a pole. I believe these SEV Motorola come out in the 122's so maybe someone where can help?

There looks to be a spare pole terminal on the back, but being unsure, I just want to confirm is this indeed will spit out 12v or does it perhaps just do something else. I just feel it's unusual for a alternator to have a couple of 12v outlets on the back, but hey.. this thing is older then I am so what would I know.

Herlp?

You can see at the 6'oclock position where the 12v terminal has been eaten... I remember hooking up a fan but I don't remember smearing it with grease.... The spare terminal in question is to the right, it was covered with a plastic grommet and hence why it looks so nice, and why I feel it might be another 12v outlet..

I suppose I can spin it by hand and measure on the Multi..

Images of the carnage below.

It's another output, just like the one I nuked (~14v)

Hooray!

Checking with the multi at high sensitivity reports electricity too. Nice.

Celebration short lived. It doesn't appear to be switched.. It's passing a circuit straight through :S :( #fail.
These should be the same as the 140 series SEV 14V/30A with the external reg. Got a green book for one of those? They've got a pretty awesome wiring diagram that should tell you.
Green book? Haynes?

No, but if someone has a wiring diagram I'd love you longest time.

I have a couple of Reno manuals where these were used, but no real detail as there 3 or 4 different alternators offered.
wait wait wait. please delete the comment about alternators being switched, Turns out if you are a bowie, and you are working on a Sunday night when you should be drinking tea you are a fsking idiot.

Al is fine. all is good.
Nope. All good.

I had a mega brain fart and forgot like, how the alternator is always connected to current.. like always..

All fixed! That secondary pole is another 12v outlet. I can only assume the Alternator I had was a "generic" and had a couple of poles as it was used in a bunch of different cars.
