Did you miss out on that Gumtree 242? Well, the next best thing, my once-for-sale 142 is for sale again.
The previous buyer could not guarantee a core condition of sale
(edit), so here we are. With recent photos this time!
The highest authority in my life, Ms Wife, has enacted the
Project Car Culling Act 2018 (for reducing the numbers of cars being taken to Tassie and for other related purposes) so I have to move it out of here.
Edited to add: This car is in the Blue Mountains NSW; I am (presently) in Launceston. If you are interested in this car, please PM me.
This car is
a project, If you have welding / metalworking skills and the ability to spay paint, you could have yourself a nice classic. Or a sleeper after a B230FT swap - 140s are somewhat lighter than their 240 descendants.
Colour is Wattle, a Dulux colour, and maroon (691) cloth interior.
This is an Australian assembled car, with numbers indicating it left the factory with a B20B twin carb engine and a manual M40 gearbox. Somebody swapped that over to a B20A / BW35 at some point before I bought it. I've traced the ownership back to a fellow in Victoria from before I bought it from Berry's. I've replaced the RH front guard, which turned to rust, and was waiting for the guy painting my other 142 to git 'r' done... but that didn't happen.
The good:
From cold, she starts on the second turn of the key - pretty good for a 45 year old car, hey. The BW35 goes into gear without bangs, and reverse works. The carpet appears to be in good shape. The dashtop has a mat. The heater fan works. The front seats have covers on them and appear to be in good condition. There's a basic AM / FM radio cassette player which works.
The not so good:
Stage 0 on this car is highly recommended. It is not fit for a UVP at present, because of the brakes issue.
At least an exhaust system, some rust repairs, brake bleeding, and some interior assembly will be needed before she'd get a blue slip. For comfort's sake, you'll need to do some HVAC ducting repair and add a replacement radio antenna too.
The rust repairs needed are in -
- LH A-pillar
- LH quarter panel before rear wheel arch
- LH rear quarter panel, 1 spot aft of rear wheel arch at sill joint
- LH aft of rear wheel arch in boot / buttcheek / quarter panel join
- LH upper rear quarter in boot seal drain area, near rear window
- LH rear beaver panel near tail light
- RHF guard (small hole at top)
- RH roof line (hole, looks like problem caused by roof rack)
IOW, pretty typical 142/242 stuff. Someone with a MIG (and the skills!) a pair on tin snips, a dremel and a grinder would make light work out of 90% of that.
With the sale
Includes a manual pedal box, brand new clutch cable and washers kit with the sale (and before you ask... no; I will not separately sell the manual pedal box). I will also include a tachometer (not fitted) and a replacement seat belt for the LH front side, a spare Commando rear bumper, plus a replacement seat belt. There are a lot of little bits I have which are also needed to make it nicer, which are too long to list - if they're not with the car when they're sold and I have it/them, I'd be happy to send them up from Tassie at no cost to the new owner once I've moved. Also, once I've moved to Tas, the buyer gets a mates' rates first option on an M40 and twin Stromberg setup - these will be sourced from the other 142 which I've been permitted to keep.
I'm asking $600 or near offer.
I'll also consider swapping it for a car body rotisserie that can be transported in a 900 series wagon, or a
pair of Selsun air jacks.
