Phase1.5 T4.
Aircon stopped working yesterday arvo. Was fine, albeit struggling slightly to keep up with four people and 41*C outside.
Then it stopped working. Fan was blowing un-cooled air around. No sign of issues from inside the car, apart from the obvious.
Got back in later on and working perfectly again?!
Any pointers of where to look?

Clutch on a.c. pump on its way out, check the clearance for excessive clearance
And or just low on gas
Dauntless
No vehicle specific knowledge, however:
Was the clutch still engaged when it was not blowing cold? What condition is the condenser in? Has the drier ever been replaced? Radiator fans working?
Many vehicles will cut out the A/C if coolant temp rises above normal.
The old Forester used to do that on very hot days, never got around to diagnosing it unfortunately.

Didn't stop to check when it wasn't working.
All of those things sound possible... I'll poke around when I get the chance, and see what I can find.
Alternatively, I will just have to hope that next time it happens, its only me in the car so I can have a look...

I have this problem in the 850. The issue is the wiring pigtail on one of the pressure switches (in my case, the one above the exhaust manifold). Wiggling the wiring around fixes it. Only seems to happen when the engine bay is hot.
Not saying it's a likely culprit, but it's something I wouldn't have thought to check. It was the very first thing my A/C guy checked though, so maybe that's saying something.

I've had ac units freeze up and fail, or lose pressure on hotter days, so slightly more gas fixed the pressure issue, but freezing is thermostat /pressure switch issue. Usually more in cold days.

I have the same problem on my 850R, if I turn it off for a minute or 2 then turn it back on it's ice cold again for half hour or so then goes warm and I have to repeat the process, gas is full I had it regassed

Hmmm. Car cranks strongly and starts without hassle but is regularly resetting the trip meter and average fuel consumption on startup.
Less often it also resets the clock and stereo.
Related?

fuse issue?
sounds like a sparky fault

Is it age related to the condenser and or heat exchanger matrix on both the s40 and 850s?
Im getting by with no gas in the v70 aircon, no good when family in car but I don't mind cooking these days, my body has weirdly changed since chimical intervention! Transversely, I can't bear to cook food anymore!

Got worse.
Door ajar light on permanently (even with doors closed), no interior lights, no stereo power.
Fiddled with the fuses in the engine bay (specifically the three blade fuses that are grouped together).
All seems good now.
