Hi,
I just recently installed a Dayco timing belt kit
on my XR5 Turbo.
The installation went without any hiccups, however I noticed that the new belt rides at the very inner edge of the cam pulleys (towards the cylinder head), unlike the original which ran centred.
I have removed the belt, re-centred it, tried the original tensioner and also tried a genuine Volvo tensioner, and still can't get the belt to ride in the centre of the pulleys.
This leaves me suspecting the Dayco belt and/or idler pulley, the only remaining aftermarket items.
The attached photo shows the original belt's location - the new belt rides roughly 2-3mm further inwards.
So without wanting to rush out and spend $500 on a genuine timing kit, has anyone experienced this or have an explanation for it? Can I leave it as is without worrying about it?
Cheers!
