AshDVS Awesome! What made you sell it in the first place? - I'd seen in for sale the first time around I think. Not sure about the seats (I'm a bit more boring in my interior tastes!) - but they do look really well done.
MarkBoundy Hi guys, I purchased the R off of a guy in Sydney in 2007, he bought it off of a Doctor from the Blue Mountains; the Doctor (also a Volvo enthusiast) is the first owner, from new and responsible for all of the TME upgrades, including the seat inserts. I spoke with him when I first bought the car, he said he had the seats reupholstered for lots of $$$ as he didn’t like the way the original seat inserts “Pilled”… I've also got a 97 V70 T5 with the suede type inserts, and yes, they pill. The leather seats in the R are in perfect condition, look exactly the same as they did when I sold the car, I don’t know where he had them done as there’s no receipts in the cars portfolio for the upholstery work. I suppose, when you’re a specialist surgeon and you have already spent over 100k on your latest love (the V70 R) you do what you want with the seats if you’re not happy. I sold the car in 2010, at the time I was travelling from near the Gold Coast to the North Side of Brisbane each day for work (teacher transfer). Some days it was a 3hr drive one way in carpark like traffic in a manual…Not good for the car, or me, plus I needed some money at the time so good buy R. I sold it to a guy back in Sydney, he flew to Brisbane and drove it back, that was the last I saw or heard of the R. Two weeks ago I was on Carsales, just looking at Volvos as usual and there it was for sale – Turns out, Jared in VIC had owned it for the last 5 years, he bought it off of the guy from Sydney that I had sold it to. When I spoke to Jared, he had a guy arriving in ten minutes and other deposits pending but nothing in the bank yet, so I made the decision to buy it back in 5min, based on info from him, I transferred the deposit and texted him the bank confirmation before the other guy arrived with a pocket full of cash. Jared and Viking Motors have kept the car in top condition over the years – best 9k I’ve spent, feels bizarre to have the car back, 10 yrs after I first owned it and fucking love it.
