I'm about to finally fit my M46 gearbox to the Sports Biscuit - it is a 78 4 speed and will have about ant 83 4/od fitted - does anybody know if the flywheel and clutch etc need changing?? @Angus242164

The flywheel will be the same standard flat flywheel, The clutch disc will be a 10 spline disc, the M46 will use a 22 spline disc. everything else, pressure plate, throw out bearing etc. should all be the same.

Yep exactly what Duncan said, best bet is probably to buy a 22 spline clutch kit to suit the flat flywheel ('79-'85 240) and machine the flywheel while it's apart. If the rear main seal is showing any signs of leakage, replace it while you've got everything apart.

Another question - is the clutch spline the same on the 1980 m45 and m46 - is it also a 22 spline clutch?
