  • KL Racing's inlet manifold for B234 16V head

Some time ago, I mentioned to @Anthony that I'd picked up some B234 inlet manifolds from KL Racing, and that I'd take some photos and post them.

Done, finally! Well... better late than never.

These components are destined for Project Clyde, which is really hotting up now that the Oz Volvo Nationals are getting closer every day.






Now let's look inside.











The inlet is available in various sizes; I opted for the 90mm diameter inlet.

We picked it up from KL Racing in person, when we were in Sweden for VROM 2015, so it came home accompanied by undies and socks.
I deal with one of these on a 740. It is very nice.

Indeed, that was my thought also. So experienced advice or opinions on how to make it flow better would be appreciated.

Very nice! They look robust and have good plenum volume. I like that they are an assembly too.
I do agree that there isn't much in the way of bellmouths. Because of the variables involved intakes are pretty difficult to model properly - and most people do it pretty superficially.
But something like this:

Fixed inside would definitely be worthwile, whilst not going overboard. It would be quite easy to DIY with a router.
It appears to suit a stock unported head. Id be curious to know if there is enough material to port it out to the edges of a standard intake gasket and also curious as to the intake runner ID near the plenum end.

Anyone done flow modelling on that manifold? My gut feel is no.1 cylinder flow might be slightly low.

I've got enough parts to get started on building myself an intake manifold in the next week of 2. I haven't 100% decided on the plenum design yet though, still a few more flow iterations to model.

Ok , chasing an inlet manifold like this for the 8v head. KL been out of stock for 6 months and still tell me another 2... Any ideas??@AshDVS
Why do you need one for your 8v? What's your power goal?

As much as I can get with a big turbo and E85. Photo = Goals
But that's a stroker 2.7
So are you doing a stroker? A 16v will make 500hp, an 8v will struggle. The flow of the 16v just makes an 8v look tiny.

If that is your goal, why not have one custom made here using a b21 intake manifold runners?
@Vee_Que is spot on - the trick is knowing that a standard 16V (532) head will flow far better than a worked 531 (8V) head. There's a thread on Tubobricks where the flow figures for each are shown.

The standard 8V B230FT inlet flows quite well for what it is, however the flow on the standard 16V inlet is reported to be poor, particularly around #4.
And modified b21e. Manifolds gain 10-15hp on small turbo cars.
