Would just like to ask the question, have done a little research and could not seem to find the answer would a 1jz Gte engine fit into a 164. I know the Volvo 960 engine will fit but finding a 960 engine is a little harder that the 1jz engine. The 1jz is a cheap import motor it can be brought with a auto box quite easily, Thoughts on this?

Outside of pan fitment and manifold fitment issues
1jz is shorter than a B30 so it can easily be made to fit

Yes saw that but being in Brisbane it is a little harder to get a B6304 here and have just been thinking about a manual swap for the 164 or a up date to the whole engine and transmission to make it a little more power all up

Yes still not cheap, but you say looking $1000 for a manual overdrive conversation for the B30 engine and then cost of engine rebuild and you would find it is starting to get up near the 2k mark. This makes a total swap still a viable thing. If that swap is a 1jzs or a B6304 it's just a matter of finding a engine and gearbox at the right price

Though the swap has been suggested to upwards of 8k for a basic no frills swap into a 245.

No, that is to make 500hp and have a drive line that will handle the power...

14k we estimated for my ls swap with a 500+rwkw engine to tyres build. We both estimated roughly that.

Ive been in a 1jz swapped 164, the blokes did it for under 8 grand
It was quick, but also very hacked together - Hence 8G

Not really looking for huge amounts of rwhp, Brisbane motor imports sell a 1jz with a auto box and looms for 3 1/2k thought this might be an easy way to go, the only thing is that the manifolds look to stick out a long way either side. But if like you say it has been done before it give me something to think about.

Yes looks like he's put a fair bit of work into it is a real nice looking 164, would have been good to see a photo of the engine bay and see how much room it has left with the 1jz in there

Stephen "MOMO" owns that wrapped volvo 164 with the 1jzgte killer car he had a fair bit of trouble fitting it in but worth it at the end of the day
